Why can't Public Assistance increase?

Then trucking companies want experience, and there are problems getting training. Never seen an ad looking for bricklayers...I think you're dreaming again, dupe. I HAVE seen stories on TV about 100 good jobs and thousands of applicants.

Seems like we have to forgive crime records since most UE blacks have them...

Really? Then try to hire a bricklayer here in Cleveland like my employer tried to do. He can't find anybody to build him a stone mailbox for his tree lawn. He even requested I ask my father to see if he knows anybody, and my father really doesn't.

Not all trucking companies want experience. Some will hire you without knowing how to spell Truck. They will not only train you, but pay you while you learn. They will not only guarantee you a job, but as part of the training, you have to sign a one or two year contract with them.

More and more foreigners are on our roads today piloting a vehicle that weigh over 75 thousand pounds, and they don't know how to speak the language yet alone read it. They are terrible drivers to boot. And several times a year, some foreigner will come running up to my truck and ask me if I would back their trailer in for them because they don't know how. I have no idea HTF these foreigners even get a drivers license in this country, but somehow they do.

But even if you don't want to get stuck working for a company under contract, most driving schools are only a couple thousand bucks, and all have financial assistance.
Funny how the companies that don't care about experience aren't hiring...

Bullshit. A 30-second search showed not one, but TWO companies hiring drivers with no experience!

Most jobs absolutely suq in this GOP world of tomorrow. 70% hate their jobs and get paid crappe. Way to break the unions and replace them with nothing, Reaganist GOP...

According to the Obama supporters, he's created all the job that supposedly brought the unemployment rate down. Since he is credited for creating them, he gets the blame if the suck.
BS. GOP have obstructed everything good for 8 years.

They are more than "a couple thousand bucks" for a class A CDL training course! I was told the full class was $10,000, and a shorter course (I have a class B, and already know most of the classroom stuff about routing & logs) was $6000.

My employer sent his son to a school to get his license. He too had a class B. My employer paid around $4,000 and his son had a class A in three weeks. So I guess it depends on where you go.

But even if it is (in your area) $6,000, thats not a lot of money compared to other trade schools, and it's easily affordable.

UPS starts out new hires on the loading dock or, if they are lucky, busting their asses 12+ hours a day on a package truck. You need to be with them a while to get the line haul runs.

Most companies do require that you work the docks to understand their system. But in most cases, it usually isn't that long because they really need the drivers.

This is the first I've ever heard of people driving around in delivery vans to get a truck driving job. My cousin knows a big-wig at UPS and told me that if I ever needed to drive for them, just give him a call.

But even those van jobs pay great money. I remember years ago (back in the early 80's) they went on strike. I read an article about it, and with pay and overtime, the senior van drivers were making over 50K a year plus benefits.

Directly from a 25-year UPS driver, more than half of new drivers burn out in <2 years. Basically, new drivers will be working nonstop, 12+ hours a day, 5 days a week for six months. They will be parboiling in 130-degree trucks (none of the package cars have a/c, many even now have no power steering), running their asses off to the tune of 150-200 stops a day. every day.

His supporters claim HE created jobs. YOU say those jobs absolutely suck and get paid crap. Logic says the jobs for which he's given credit amount to nothing and his supporters count them only for the numbers not the quality.

The GOP couldn't have obstructed anything good for 8 years. 2 of them the Democrats had control of Congress and the other 6 didn't produce any good ideas from Obama.

Oh, without a doubt, it's a bust ass job. And AC would do you no good because you are stopping every minute or two and delivering packages. But with other jobs, the pay is a lot less and you work harder such as in the construction industry.

Even their tractors (years ago) didn't have power steering, but eventually they figured out the time needed to back in a truck with no power steering outweighed the advantage of having trucks with power steering, so they began to provide that for their tractor-trailer drivers.

Our min wage is pathetic. End of story. A disgrace. No end of GOP disgraces, dupe.

The minimum wage has been around for 82 years. Do you know what FDR said the day he signed it into law? He said: "Any company that cannot pay a living wage doesn't deserve to exist in America!"

That was 82 years ago... not 8 years ago... not 20 years ago... 82 years ago! So, all through the past 82 years, we've had one Democrat politician and administration after another, promising to deliver this elusive "living wage" through increasing the minimum wage. Not just one president, not just a few administrations... MANY. We've had numerous increases in the minimum wage... every time, it is promised THIS will fix things... THIS will be the ultimate answer to the problem of a living wage.

Now.... here we are today and what are you telling us? The SAME THING!

You should be able to comprehend that raising the minimum wage is never going to resolve the problem. I don't know why you can't comprehend this... 82 years of doing the exact same thing with no satisfactory results should convince just about anyone.... but for some reason, you want to keep on believing that if we just increase it ONE MORE TIME... that will somehow magically work! Well.... it won't work... just like it hasn't worked for 82 years.

I have argued before, and I will make the point again... the Minimum Wage was actually the worst thing that could've ever been done for wage disparity. It did help in the beginning, just as it temporarily seems to help whenever it is raised. But it doesn't last. Prices increase and the inflation offsets the increase in wages every time. So you end up with people making a little more but everything costs more so there is no gain.

But that's not the real problem with a Federally-mandated minimum wage. The real problem is, it baselines labor costs across the board for hourly-wage workers of all stripes. The "greedy rich capitalists" whom you hate, absolutely LOVE the MW because it allows them to calculate precisely what labor will cost them this year, next year and beyond. They do not have to negotiate with individuals based on skills and talents, they don't have to worry about supply and demand of labor... they simply baseline your rate of pay on whatever arbitrary amount the government has deemed minimal.

If there was no MW... an individual would be free to negotiate with a prospective employer based on what he/she brings to the table in terms of skill and talent. They could say... I don't think this job is doable for $7.50/hr. I will need at least $10/hr. When an employee is asked to increase production, they could say... we need to talk about my pay if you want higher production.... as it stands, the employer simply points to the MW and says... get back to work or I'll replace you with someone who will work for the MW.

So you have constructed a Marxist-Socialist model for pay and as we can see... it doesn't work. It fails to provide a living wage as promised 82 years ago... but still, you BELIEVE!

Who is the DUPE here??? :dunno:

Actually, I suspect it was more that nobody builds a tractor with manual steering anymore. (The package trucks have power steering now for the same reason.)

Yup, 2 years of control with only 200+ GOP filibusters- You're duped AGAIN. 2 things passed. ACTUALLY, 2 months of control , all used to pass ACA.

And btw, the middle of ANOTHER corrupt world economic melt down is no time for economic reform.

No, like I said, it seems to work temporarily. Prices go up, jobs are eliminated, production increased and markets adjust... then it's right back to where you were.

You can't make it "keep up with inflation" because it is what is driving the inflation. What you have to do... or someone will eventually have to make you do... is to understand it's a wrongheaded idea that doesn't work. Problem is, liberal progressives are the most hardheaded people on the planet.

The 1%ers got that way by many methods. They inherited, started from the bottom and worked up (hasn't happened in about 10 years or more), cheated the system whether it be taxes or other methods, (on paper only) shifted their main corporations overseas where they pay ZERO US Taxes but collect oodles in sales in the US.

While small business needs help, the Corporations are raiding everyone in their pathway. It's like locust in a grain field.

I do say that the taxes need to be lowered on all businesses that play the game with America's best interest. But I also say that we need to not only lower the tax rate but close ALL the loopholes that corporations seem to find. Even when a bill is trying to be introduced that may do this, it's laughed right out of congress. The first step is to get rid of the congress critters that work for the Corporations instead of to whom they are supposed to working for.

You do realize there is nothing you can ever do that will eliminate a Top 1%... right? I mean, regardless of what measures you put into place, there will forever and always be a Top 1% and a lower 99%.

People who "cheat the system" are called lawbreakers and we send them to prison. Unfortunately, we have to first catch them breaking the law. There is no law that we can ever pass that will be followed by everyone.

Now, I am taking the time to patiently explain these things to you because it sounds like you are an average person who is listening to the Marxist rhetoric and finding it believable. Certainly, a lot of people who are wealthy are beneficiaries of their family's wealth. But there is really not anything wrong with that, most people want to pass something down to their children and they should be able to do that in a free society. And there is always the old adage, "a fool and his money are soon parted" ...so even when someone inherits wealth, they have to be somewhat smart with money or they won't be wealthy for very long.

In addition to those who gained wealth through the fortune of the family they happened to be born in, we have a great many more who earned their wealth. When we begin to study their backgrounds and history, we find two striking things. Either or both can be true. One: They tend to come from humble beginnings. They may have even grown up in poverty. And-- Two: They had extraordinary work ethic and ambition to succeed. One or both is almost always the case.

So again, there is nothing wrong about this. Some people are jealous of it, but really, there is nothing wrong with people being ambitions and utilizing the tools of freedom to generate wealth... in fact, it's one of the great things about our nation. Oh, it's a helluva problem to have.... Our system creates more millionaires and billionaires than any system ever created by man. And with that, it creates some extremely jealous people who resent those people for what they obtain.

Finally, since you mentioned it, I want to address these "loopholes". You didn't specify anything in particular and that tells me that you are again, listening to the rhetoric and responding emotionally. You've heard that some people gain wealth by "exploiting loopholes" and that sounds unethical and sinister... but you have to remember, you are listening to jealous people who want to destroy your freedom to obtain wealth.

These so-called "loopholes" are actually laws and legislation passed by our governing bodies and carefully deliberated through the free exchange of ideas. Generally, these measures are passed into law in order to address a problem which needed a solution. Now... some people believe that every politician in Washington is corrupt and bought off by special interests, etc. If you believe that to be the case, the real problem is US... we vote for these people and keep them in power, and again... we live in a free society where we have the ability to throw the bums out or prosecute the bad ones and throw them in jail for corruption. So let us assume, most of them are legitimately trying to represent us as they are intended to do, because if not, we have a bigger problem.

Congressmen don't go to work thinking, what kind of loopholes can I write into the law today in order to screw the little guy and help the wealthy. When they vote on these things, no one is saying... let's all pass this new loophole so the wealthy can make more wealth and the poor can be exploited more. Again... IF that is happening, we have bigger problems. I don't believe that's what is happening and I don't think most reasonable people think this about the representatives they've elected. Therefore, we must presume that when they pass this legislation, there is a very real and important reason they did so. These so-called "loopholes" are addressing some problem and when they are suddenly removed, the problem comes back.

When you press a liberal progressive to cite some examples of these nasty awful "loopholes" you typically get to the bottom of things and you find they are not fully informed. They generally make the exact same arguments against the "loophole" that was made when it was deliberated but their side lost the debate. So why, all of a sudden, without any need for further debate, are they now correct?

Actually, many OTR companies will train drivers for nothing, if they agree to work for that company for a year or two.
