The issue is that when money changes hands it never really is. More importantly, prostitution very directly supports the trafficking and abuse in every vile and evil manner of women and children. THAT'S WHY.

It would harm women forced into prostitution by exploiting. It spreads disease.

Prostitution is one of those things that can never be fully legalized. Parts can be regulated which just means illegal prostitution.

I don't see a problem as long as they had managed brothels, like the Chicken Ranch, where the women are doing their work of their own accord and there are no minors involved. Condoms would be mandatory for men and taxes garnered from the business for the county and state. There are, after all, some people who because of negative physical appearances, have it very difficult to find sexual gratification from the opposite sex. They too should have instances of intimacy with their opposite sex. One problem I can see though, is customers showing up who are married. If their wives wouldn't be okay with it, they shouldn't be there.

Because...

A) Conservatives, small government conservatives.... they don't like prostitution because it goes against their Christian "ethics and morals"... (Umbaganofoghazzzah (my pronoun for today) says with a little snigger)
B) Liberals don't like it because it demeans women, it forces them into a bad situation that most people would hate to be in.
