Trump has a valid and viable strategy that is being approved and twinked by some impressive consultants. The thesis is not original or off the top of the head. Working things out on some degree or level with Russia and being able to be of mutual benefit will be needed by Trump to advance his other strategies and ideas. So a Democrat would turn a blind eye to everything China does in the hope China will solve our North Korea problem? Fortunately, Trump is smarter than you or Obama or the idiots Obama had in the State Department and realizes China's refusal to rein in North Korea's nuclear program is only one part of China's very aggressive behavior in the Pacific and that the US is going to have to take a firm stand to counter China's moves very soon. If we cannot get China to back down then because of our commitments to defend Japan, South Korea and the Phillipines, we may find ourselves preparing for military action there in the near future.

I know you are not really interested in the issues, but China may not have as much influence over what North Korea does as you imagine. Above all things, China does not want a western back state on its border and North Korea knows it, so China will tolerate almost anything North Korea does rather than see it fail.
