This is just one of several reasons.
Note that the rifles used here are representative; numerous other examples exist.

The CA / CT /. NY bans are useless in preventing any sort of crime with an 'assault weapons' because new 'assault weapons' are still fully accessible in these states.

Consider this manually operated bolt-action AR-stye rifle.
MPA 5.56x45mm Bolt Action Sporting Rifle - MasterPiece Arms, Inc.
Fully legal in all 50 states; anyone who can legally buy a gun can buy them legally, in quantities limited only by how much money they want to spend.

Consider this semi-auto AR style rifle.
MPAR556 Gen II ATAC - MasterPiece Arms, Inc.
This rifle differs from its cousin, noted above, only by the fact it has a semi-auto upper; the receiver for both rifles in the same.

Semi-auto upper receivers are unregulated by US, CA, CT and NY law; they can be legally bought on-line in quantities limited only by how much money the buyer wants to spend, and then shipped UPS to the buyer's door - no dealer, no background check, no serial number, nothing.

The point?
It takes ~20 seconds to swap the semi-auto receiver to the bolt action rifle, creating (gasp!) a brand new 'assault weapon. This conversion may be illegal, but if someone plans to shoot up a school or workplace, this is meaningless; anyone determined to commit such a crime has simple and easy access to the means of doing so.
That is, simple and easy access to an 'assault weapon', even though they are 'banned'.

Tell us again how 'assault weapon' bans will prevent mass shootings.

What progressives consider "an assault weapon" is just a sporting rifle, the joke is on them. They really should educate themselves...
Lol
