(Why) The Resistance is Failing

(Why) The Resistance is Losing – Bad Words – Medium
The Muslim ban is in effect. The info shock-troops are attacking journalists daily. There are open calls for violence from major national institutions like the NRA. Hate crimes are spiking.

Sorry. But: the resistance is losing. And it is losing badly.

...

I've seen several articles like this lately. And while they all claim to have (finally) figured out why people are rejecting Democrats, they all get it wrong in the same way:

Authoritarianism rises in societies with broken social contracts, that are failing the average person. That’s America, where average incomes have shrunk in real terms since the 1970s. Broken social contracts reflect failed institutions. They mean that democracy isn’t working — political institutions aren’t working. They mean that real economic value isn’t being created and shared — financial institutions aren’t working. They mean that human potential is stuck and withering — social institutions like media and education and healthcare aren’t working. Thus, a social contract in its entirety comes to be broken.

Democrats can't seem to let go of socialism as their core product. And they can't seem to get it through their heads that most Americans aren't socialists. They can't bear to recognize that Americans don't want a nanny-state, hovering over their shoulder at every turn. And until they do, they're going to keep losing.
The Regressive Left learned nothing, zero, from Trump's win in 2016.

They're even more nasty & hateful than they were before his win, before the political PTSD hit them.

They may still take the House, that's how politics usually go, but they learned nothing.
.

They might just take all of it. Which they will mistake for a 'win'. They'll call it a mandate, and use it as an excuse to cram even more bullshit down our throats. Which will trigger an even stronger authoritarian reprisal. Wash, rinse, repeat.

The pendulum swings further each time.
Yep, and that's dangerous as hell.

Worse,a self-inflicted wound.
.

It definitely is. Unfortunately, that's where we're headed.

But what are tariffs if not a nanny state?

Totally. I'm not defending Republicans. They are a lost cause. I'm trying to wake up the Democrats.
I don't think the dems have any unified voice, and they really won't till the presidential primaries.

I think you are right if you're saying that their focus has to be on market economics. Immigration, racism, me too, those are issues that the dem base has pretty much homogenous views. But, presidential elections are usually about the economy. Trump explicitly wants the economy of 1968. It ain't gonna happen, and it has nothing to do with decentralized markets.

No, no, and no. It's not the economy, stupid. That's just another side of the socialism coin.
Trump is only president for two reasons: Putin and Comey helped him, and 120K folks in the rust belt decided Obama didn't help them.

I don't see that socialism involves multinationals producing products in different nations and trading without tariffs. Trump is trumpeting a form of socialism. It may be true that globalism did not transfer benefits to the rust belt, but maybe it did and people don't want to face the reality of life in the 21st century.

The dems are elitists who favor govt control over social programs. But you and I differ over whether it is socialism for the govt to tax capital and use the proceeds to provide funds for healthcare and education. There are practical problems with treating people on one side of the federal poverty level plus 33% differently than others.

I'm more than sympathetic to the fact the about the only job still available to a HS grad that pays well enough for a mortgage and vacations is long haul truckdriving. However, if a family of 4 is living in the family home with no mortgage and granny getting soc sec is still around, and they make just enough to not pay federal taxes, and their property taxes are dirt cheap, and they can grow veggies and a little weed on the side ..... their complaint may not be with the rest of society.

Sort of funny in a sad sort of way to watch the tariff cheerleads whine about a nanny state.

And the money that we the people are borrowing to run our government belong to the future generations that will make it, but nobody gives a shit about them for some reason.

It is amazing how on 8 Nov debt and deficit spending stopped being a problem for a large group and started to be one for a different group.

It is almost as if party trump country for so many of you.

We've been over this....we could balance the budget using the government expenditures of 2007...take that budget and with out current taxes, it would give us a surplus.....now what are the chances of that happening?
especially the side bitching about the deficit, the democrats?

they would filibuster and demaguogue the issue......normally I would say it doesn't matter, but Trump is crazy and ballsy enough to try something, but he cant until 2020, because he said he wouldn't touch entitlements....so we'll see how it goes.

The right worried the whole time O was doing his thing, they just quit again after Trump took over the job of adding to the debt.

Personally I have worried about it since Reagan had his record setting debt addition.

The chances of that happening are zero because nobody in power wants it to happen, to include Trump. Trump has never wanted to spend less, all he has talked about is moving the spending around.

We all have, think about the money we'd have if we ddint pay interest on the debt. people are so short sighted...but again...if you try the left brings out their fake protestors and props amplified by their media allies and then nothing ever gets done.

I agree, all I'm saying is he is the one guy that may (I stress the word may) try and break that cycle....I doubt it.....but no one else has the balls to fight the media, democrats and special interest

Trump is only president for two reasons: Putin and Comey helped him, and 120K folks in the rust belt decided Obama didn't help them.

This exactly the attitude that prompted the OP. Democrats don't what to hear it (or maybe they just can't), but voters didn't reject them because they weren't getting enough help. Democrats were rejected because voters are sick to death of the kind of paternalistic, meddling "help" that Democrats impose on society.

Yep. It's kind of like watching the nanny-staters whining about authoritarianism.

Which side of nanny staters whines about that?

Did you read the article?

I sure did. Not seeing the authoritarianism though. We saw it when fdr was running japanese internment camps. But, nothing like that is happening.

/----/ Oh they can be seen as Nanny State, so you should be for them. BTW how would you get fair trade with these countries?
