Yikes: McCarthy & Taylor-Greene warn telecom companies not to turn over Jan 6 phone records

Apples and tomatoes. If it turns out (and it will) that any of the subpoenaed subjects were talking to people arrested for their violence on 1/6 .. there will be hell to pay.
Seems an explicit admission that you're on a fishing expedition. You're not at all concerned at the precedent that is setting? Why not?

No, they might be violating federal privacy laws if they released them on their own.
That's what subpoenas are for. And nobody is gonna release unredacted phone records to the general public.

Not openly, no. But Communists never do anything openly. When they give information to their media friends, they call it a leak, and how many dozens of times has that happened with the Democrats?

And I'll ask this question again: If they are going to try and pull this stunt, why not make the request for everybody in Congress instead of just Republicans? That way when we take over in 2023 we can see what they were talking about before and during the attack.

trump did.

While he was president. Only unlike the democrats, trump did it in secret.

He got Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell's phone records secretly.

There's an inspector general investigation into it now.

trump did much worse than just ask companies to retain records. Which is all the democrats have done thus far. That's it. All the democrats have done is ask those companies to retain records.

trump went much farther. He got phone records of those politicians and the records of many journalists. Mostly those at The NY Times and Washington Post. trump got the judge to issue a gag order so the phone companies couldn't alert their customers that it was being done.

The only reason why we know about this is because the gag order lapsed so the phone companies alerted their customers about trump getting their phone records. If that gag order had not expired, none of this would have been known.

You had absolutely no problem with trump doing this and doing it in secret.

Yet you have a problem with democrats publicly asking phone companies to retain records.

You are nothing but a hypocrite.

Your article was from June 11th. So what did this so-called investigation turn up? Apparently nothing. Also according to your article, Apple was going to release all the information that was subpoenaed in May.

Records of reporters? Trump must have learned how to do that from Obama.

I'm sorry you feel that way, but the American people want to know WTF happened on 1/6. We know at this point that McCarthy has lied about his phone calls with Trump, Jordon has lied about his phone calls with Trump, and we need to know what coordination went on between Q-Kooks like Greene & Boebert with Proud Boys, Q-Kooks and militia goons.

In the latest Economist/YouGov poll, the public supports such an investigation by nearly two to one (56% approve, 30% disapprove). One in four Republicans (28%) supports that commission, as do four in five Democrats (84%) and half of Independents (51%).

Interesting. I wonder why they would be worried about such a thing. It was just a tour that got a little rowdy!

Any guesses?

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) have warned telecommunications companies against sharing information with the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) joined House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in threatening telecommunications companies that comply with a records request from the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday. Greene is pictured after a press conference outside the Capitol in Washington, D.C. on August 23, 2021.

McCarthy and Greene on Tuesday both suggested that the companies would face repercussions for complying with the committee's request for data once Republicans are in control of the government. The committee asked 35 telecommunications and social media companies to supply it with the records on Monday.

Some of the requested records pertain to Greene and other Republican members of Congress who were involved in the January 6 "Stop the Steal" rally supporting former President Donald Trump's false claims that he "won" the 2020 election, according to CNN. Shortly after the rally, the Capitol was breached by rioters who claimed that Trump was a victim of election fraud.
Don't need guesses. The Dems just want accomplices for their kangaroo investigation. Kangaroo investigations should not be allowed and any accomplices should pay for their actions.

So you'd be happy with random searches of your house? You have nothing to hide, right? Nothing to worry about, right?
Apples and salamanders - But they are more than welcome to search my house if they come with a warrant. No, I have nothing to hide.

Obviously you don't understand that these people are government officials and should be held to a higher standard.

And let me guess: Trumpsters are the ones who decide what "kangaroo investigations" are.

Too bad. This investigation is moving forward, and if they legally get those phone records, we'll see what happens.

We already know the Trumpsters will call it all "fake news" anyway, since that's their only response.

If congressional Republicans have reason to believe that one or more Democrats were engaged in a criminal activity, they are more than welcome to conduct an investigation and subpoena records.

Everybody in congress? Please, subpoenas don't work that way. They are typically narrow in their scope and based on probable cause.

There is nothing inherently wrong with a hypothetical, Commune of Heaven on Earth; only lousy management.

Its so odd watching you Trumpers during all of this. You supported the rioters, believe the Big Lie 100%, and heap praise on the liars still spreading the big lie. But no no no there is nothing to find in an investigation. Just a witch hunt! No insurrection, just a protest!

They are breaking the law.

Section 1505 of Title 18, United States Code, as amended by the Victim and Witness Protection Act of 1982, forbids anyone from corruptly, or by threats of force or by any threatening communication, influencing, obstructing, or impeding any pending proceeding before a department or agency of the United States, or Congress. In 1996 Congress enacted a clarifying amendment to 18 U.S.C. § 1515, which defines the term "corruptly" as used in section 1505 to mean "acting with an improper purpose, personally or by influencing another, including making a false or misleading statement, or withholding, concealing, altering, or destroying a document or other information." False Statements Accountability Act of 1996, Pub. L. No. 104-292, §3, 110 Stat. 3459, 3460.

The omnibus clause of 18 U.S.C. § 1505 parallels its counterpart in 18 U.S.C. § 1503 in language and purpose, and most of the law construing the latter is applicable to the former. Generally, a defendant may be found guilty under section 1505 if the government establishes that: (1) there was a proceeding pending before a department or agency of the United States; (2) the defendant knew of or had a reasonably founded belief that the proceeding was pending; and (3) the defendant corruptly endeavored to influence, obstruct, or impede the due and proper administration of the law under which the proceeding was pending. United States v. Price, 951 F.2d 1028, 1030-31 (9th Cir. 1991); United States v. Sprecher, 783 F. Supp. 133, 163 (S.D.N.Y. 1992).

McCarthy and MTG should be impeached and prosecuted immediately.

Sad thing is the depth of your partisanship. Pelosi has had 13 investigations. Senate had an extensive months long investigation and report. Biden's DOJ has conducted and is conducting 400+ criminal investigations.

If you were being honest. they only thing you are looking for is something you believe might possibly embarrass Trump or any Republican.

No. No warrant. That is the standard you are advocating. Why the problem, you have nothing to hide., right?

How can you possibly be so wrong -So often? :rolleyes-41:
