It cannot be denied that the Nazis were against Socialism/Communism as a matter of self-conception. During the time of the Weimarer Republik, the socialists had also a strong movement and their ideas like no private ownership of production means were strongly rejected by the Nazis. Also, in that time, leftism and rightism were not the same as to today in the USA. Topics like border control (absolute) or economic regulation (non-existent) didn´t exist at all. It was rather like a class war and the Nazis managed to unite both sides. That time was very unique also for Germany with its huge amount of democracy and political instability. Paired with the unacceptable conditions of the peace in 1918 and a very political people, this was a perfect hotbed for Nazis and Commies.
