3 Richest Americans Now Own More Wealth Than Bottom Half of US Combined

It is time to close the loopholes, increase their income tax and even the fucking playing field. That my friends is the right thing to do.

How are you going to even the playing field by punishing the high income earners? They will reduce their spending and incentive to earn more which means less money for you to redistribute. This, coupled with ignorance and refusal to reduce government spending is simply going to push US towards the failed socialist models of other countries.

Distributed prosperity cannot be achieved in economic policies rooted in class warfare.
The problem IS the extreme wealthy. The so called .01%. They have attained enormous political power, due to their enormous wealth. Many of these enormously wealthy people use the central government to achieve power and wealth. They do this by buying protection from central government rules and regulations, via huge political donations. It is a racket the Mafia can only dream of.

They often can protect their enormous wealth from taxation...here is a good series of columns exposing how they do it.

Paradise Papers....
Paradise Papers Shine Light on Where the Elite Keep Their Money

Everything you just described about the 1 percent is prevalent in countries that employ the model you want US to move towards. The difference is that her, US, there is opportunity to move up. The model you want locks in a truly 1 percent. The 1 percent here is not locked in compared to the rest of the world.
That opportunity to move up has decreased dramatically since we embraced supply side
That opportunity to move up has decreased dramatically since we embraced the entitlement generation.
You have it backwards

Salaries are down, way down. Used to be low skilled workers could support themselves....now they need government assistance

Microsoft, Google, Apple, Amazon and Facebook became huge after The Reagan administration, not before, numskull.

Your theory, as always, has problems.

LOL.......how many people moved from welfare to Apple executive?

Agreed, yet the big omnipresent central government you so admire, has done nothing to stop it.

Your beloved Big Ears who spent TRILLIONS on boondoggles and cronyism, only made it worse. Imagine if he weren't such a corrupt elitist, and he used all those Trillions to provide HC.

Slashing taxes and then slashing public services is spreading the divide

Problem with your post is there is no truth to it, but it does prove you get your news from CNN and MSLSD.

The odds / opportunity of that happening here are greater here in the US vs. countries that deploy redistribution of income models.

And the bottom half of America live like kings and queens compared with 99.9% of people throughout history.....capitolism is working.

wealth disparity is greater now than at any time in my lifetime.

but nice delusion you hate there.

It is probably not a good idea to make a hero out of a woman who spent her final years with Alzheimer's. Now that I think about it, so did Reagan, so, at least there is some consistency on the Right.

Thanks for dismissing the lives of all people who spend their final years with Alzheimer's. No heros here!

Well, in view of the fact that Reagan was obviously suffering from it in the final years of his presidency, and was making decisions affecting millions of Americans, I thought that it was worthy of comment. Thatcher, may, or may not have been doing the same, but it just seems to me that if you want to make a political hero out of someone, it would probably be better if you can determine if they were, or were not, in their right mind. I have a couple of relatives who had Alzheimers, and I don't think that I would be using them as fine examples of a political agenda when they were, in fact, wandering away from home, and not knowing where they were, or even not sure of just what their names were.

Reagan was not suffering from Alheimer's at all in his presidency. My mother died of Alzhiemer's, and the symptoms didn't start showing until 2-3 years before she passed away.

As you know, the left continues this old canard of Reagan suffering Alzhiemer's during his second term....Of course, it is easily disproven...but some things never die with the stupid left...they are so easily duped.

Does this look like someone suffering Alzhiemer's?

Maybe the bottom half should learn to be more like those three guys. We should teach money management and chutzpah in school

It isn't theirs

They cheated on taxes by using loop holes and offshoring. They're CHEATING! Look at the Paradise papers to realize that this is true!.

Then do something about the cheating, dumbass. Economic power should be under control of the people, not government.

They cheated their workers out of what they earned through their hard work by making 985%, while the workers haven't gotten shit. Is this fair? NO.
They jacked up prices on their product for Americans, while other countries can get the same product for 1/10th as much.
They used slave and serf labor in the third world to make so much profit. They use abusive and shitty quality of work environment.

Come on Kat.
They were allowed to do all that cheating because the big government you so love, allowed it.

Yup
A small number made it big
But Microsoft did not create opportunities at lower levels

We are talking about upward mobility and you provide examples of moving from upper middle class to wealthy

The opportunities at low and middle class are diminishing

!0,000 in one company is a "small number?" All those people were low and middle class, nimrod. Even secretaries became millionaires at Microsoft. If everyone earned a million dollars, then that would just be a middle class wage.

If the opportunities are diminishing, what are they diminishing compared to when? How do we get back to that point? What were the economic policies? What were the tax rates relative to government spending?

Their wealth isn’t based on income from an employer. They built their empires and created things that people buy or use.

Just because half the country is content with being bottom feeders doesn’t mean the people actually doing stuff should be penalized for it.

Let's call it what you and others want, a return to a new form of governance: An authoritarian POTUS; a Nobility making the laws as ordered by the King; the Clergy, in black robes as the Oracle dispensing justice; and lords and dukes as managers & supervisors - overlords - keeping rest of We the People under control and paying the taxes to support the power elite.

Of course, the children of the hoi polloi will be inherit the role of the parent, killing the American Dream.
