6.4 mag earthquake in S. Ca.

After that earthquake on the 4th they said meh, it would be aftershocks and that was it. Then comes another big one. I really hope they're right THIS time and these are not foreshocks to ANOTHER big one coming. Sheesh

Um...that is not what was said by the lady who did the explanations on Earthquakes. Do you lie because you are an anti-intellectual? Or, didn't listen to the MSM and heard that from Hannity or Limbaugh (both who didn't finish college, and the lady has a Ph.D).

I have a Ph.D. - so I guess anything you post that conflicts with posts of mine is automatically invalid....

LOL

First, Scan your sheep skin and I might believe you. Better yet, post your dissertation - even a summary will be acceptable.

What you believe is irrelevant. As is your logical fallacy of "appeal to authority."

Do we really need to pay USGS to come around and tell us there has been an Earthquake? Millions dollar salaries standing around preening for LW MSM. $22T debt, budgets never balanced.....cut cut cut.

I was driving and thought I had a flat rear tire. Truck was really handling funny. Pulled over and everything was shaking. It lasted at least 30 seconds.
How long did the longest earthquake go for, where ever it happened and when?

God bless you always!!!

Holly

P.S. I've never experienced one and the only time that I've ever really see one was on TV during the Saved By The Bell episode when Zack and Mr. Belding's pregnant wife get stuck in the school elevator right when one takes place.

She did say only a 5% chance. Now she says it is 10% for a bigger one.

Seismology is a relatively new sub specialty of geology. There have been more advancements made over the last 30 years thanks to new instruments, and a better understanding of how fault complexes work, than in the previous 70 years since the specialty was founded in the wake of the 1906 quake.

And, seismology is the study, and calculation of percentages. We can only surmise what is happening at depth. We can't see it. Thus we look at the historical record and trench fault lines so we can calculate the periodicity of quakes and that gives us a baseline.

Pretty much ALL of southern California is due for a major quake. The last major break along the San Andreas was 1857 in Fort Tejon. That one was a monster with up to 32 feet of displacement.
Yep, hubby and I were talking about it last night, how new the real research is. I actually applaud them for telling of their limitations.
Wry Catcher can just be such a jerk sometimes.

Yes, the USGS is helping to develop a science that will eventually save lives, and allow us to use the resources of the planet in a better, more efficient, and less destructive way.

I figured y'all should get reacquainted with some earthquake safety shit, old school.

Another big one last night in the Mojave. No serious injuries, but some gas line breaks and fires.

It's worse than you think. In Huntington there were a lot of broken windows. I lost a sliding glass door that shattered during the 7.1 last night.

In Ridgecrest, about 80 miles from me, the damage is severe.

Yup. Y'all have had a break for awhile it sounds like. I'm hoping California remembers all the safety stuff. Can say I miss the earthquakes.

7.1 in Ridgecrest, CA. We felt it here in Vegas. At a friends house for dinner and the lights started shaking
No big deal though, right?

Not really. It was very minor

It will cost me $1,000 to replace the sliding glass door that shattered during the one last night. And I'm about 80 miles from the epicenter. There will be $100 million plus in damages from this.
Whatever our differences, stay safe.

Wow, a Ph.D who has no clue on what an appeal to authority is. Asking or evidence of your claim is not to appeal to authority.

From reading your many posts, I'm nearly certain you don't even have a high school diploma.

Appeal to authority is a common type of fallacy, an argument based on unsound logic.

When writers or speakers use appeal to authority
, they are claiming that something must be true because it is believed by someone who said to be an "authority" on the subject.

Asking for evidence is NOT an appeal to authority.

Wow, a liar and a fool.

Think of California as a typical liberal teenager.

Think of that minor earthquake as the mom of said teen.

Telling him/her/it to clean up their room.

Then delivering with real consequences if they fail so to do.

In a perfect world, of course.

Sadly, no guarantees.

Nice to see you believe all the conservative talking points about children in California. There is no "clean up your room" demands as the rooms are clean.

6.4 magnitude earthquake in Southern California
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A large earthquake has rattled a large swath of Southern California. There are no immediate reports of damage.

Oh well happens all the time lol
Nothing...it hit in the middle of the desert...we barely felt it...thought the dog was scratching himself while leaning against my chair.

Please be safe. Stockpile water, canned and dried foods (tuna is a good choice), and, of course **dog food**. Don't sleep under anything that might fall on you. The "thoughts and prayers" garbage is getting old, but what is there to do here in the east but to send them.
We just went out to our home in the desert....a few cracks on our back patio concrete....but then again, there are always problems out here with foundations shifting....we will probably have to do something eventually about it.

Some nifty shots here trucks rocking back and forth lol
