1) The present state of the economy is Bush's fault. Never mind Obama has been president for going on 3 years. It's Bush's fault.
2) The stimulus may look bad but imagine how bad it would have been if we had done nothing. That of course is not only not provable, it is not helpful. People look at results, not at hypotheticals.
3) The stimulus didnt work because the GOP insisted on changes that torpedoed its effectiveness. This one is so looney only the hard core could fall for it.

The most proximate, is the Government's agenda of promoting home ownership for people who cannot afford mortgages, with the taxpayers derisking the mortgage owners. Bush contributed to it, but he's a minor player compared to others.
