Another Interstate Bridge Collapse

That bridge should NOT have totally failed just because a truck "clipped it".

I think it was obsolete for the traffic of 2013.

When was this bridge built?

It didn't totally fail, most of it is still standing.

By the way, what makes you think this was the first ever accident on that particular bridge? The damn thing is older than I am, there have probably been dozens of accidents on it. This was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

my my, shouldn't they be wailing at the DEMOCRAT who RUNS this STATE?

of course not, they want to blame Republicans in the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND DEMAND we who don't live there PONY up more of our hard earned MONEY

The reason the bridge collapsed is probably due to missuse of funds, we all know that much of the stimulus funds that went to "Corrupt Blue States" wound up in the wrong pockets and the Liberal leaders used it to pay off State Debts, and whatever was left over went to pay for their new vacation homes. (well how else do liberals pay for those estates in Cape Cod/The Hamptons & Florida)?

Being it happened in a deep blue state, you know that 55% of the residents have already blamed it on Bush. Yup, a vehicle clips the bridge, and Bush caused it. Just like Bush caused Paris Hilton and some other ditsy actress to clip a pedestrian.

some slime in the Progressive-Democrat party is already using this to try and soak us for more money

don't forget their motto..

NEVER let a tragedy, ACCIDENT, shooting, hurricane tornadoes etc etc
GO TO WASTE

Infrastructure is one of the most valuable things to a country.

Neglecting infrastructure is literally taking one of the things that facilitated making this country great, and neglecting it.

Bridges, roads, public buildings need constant maintenance and repair, and money should be spent on it.

Then why wasn't the stimulus money spent on it like it was packaged, hmmmmm?

come now, someone already CROWED how 40% of that 800 BILLION stimulus Obama plucked off his money tree went for infrastructure..

where oh where did the other 60% go:eusa_shhh:

"The Skagit bridge was rated "structurally deficient" in 1992, needing $8.3 million in fixes, according to a report by uglybridges.com, which cites the National Bridge Inventory data for that year. There was erosion on the stream banks below, and serious road-deck damage or wear. By 1994, the federal database listed the bridge as "functionally obsolete," an improved rating but an indication it still wasn't adequate for modern traffic."

The estimated replacement cost for the Skagit River Bridge is $15 million.

So what you are saying in the 13 years a Democrat has been President with several of those year enjoying a Congressional majority in both the House and the Senate, the Democrats knew about the problem and did nothing. And you want to blame Republicans that had the Presidency for 8 years with only a couple years in the majority.

Interesting how partisan nut jobs think and excuse.

good one..:eusa_shhh: they don't want to hear this, they can't BLAME Republicans that way

the poor OP is such a tool..

it's Republicans fault and WE WANT MORE of YOUR all's money money money money money

how about the infrastructure in Tampa? we need to stop those sink holes from eating and swallowing U.S. Americans !!!

(My bold)

TMK, we don't have a fix for sink holes.

For info on infrastructure spending, specifically bridges & the stimulus bill - see U.S. infrastructure spending has plummeted since 2008 - WA Post, 05/24/13 - Brad Plumer

It notes, in part -

"There’s still been a big drop-off (of maintenance) in recent years, although that also came after a big build-up in the late 2000s. (Sadly, the data series doesn’t extend back before 2002, so it’s tough to see what this looks like historically.)

"How did this happen? States and local governments are the biggest part of the story here. They’ve historically provided the vast majority of spending for roads, highways and bridges, and they’ve been pulling back on spending since 2008 as a result of the economic downturn and requirements to balance their budgets. California’s transportation spending declined by 31 percent from 2007 to 2009, for instance. Texas’s fell by 8 percent.

"At the same time, Congress hasn’t filled in the gap. There was a one-time $46 billion infusion of transportation spending in the stimulus bill. But that wasn’t enough to offset the drop at the state and local level. Meanwhile, the most recent highway bill out of Congress kept federal spending at current levels rather than increasing it."

Interesting but it has already been established that spending had nothing to do with this collapse. This was not an issue of sufficient funds.
