Cons have fought every effort to build the infrastructure.
I guess you missed the hoopla about the bridge to nowhere that was earmarked by a Republican.
Something that wasn't needed, because the ferries were able to handle it. A ferry every 30 minutes, vs a nearly 400 million dollar bridge project, not counting constant maintenance.
That bridge should NOT have totally failed just because a truck "clipped it".
I think it was obsolete for the traffic of 2013.
When was this bridge built?
Infrastructure is one of the most valuable things to a country.
Neglecting infrastructure is literally taking one of the things that facilitated making this country great, and neglecting it.
Bridges, roads, public buildings need constant maintenance and repair, and money should be spent on it.

Then why wasn't the stimulus money spent on it like it was packaged, hmmmmm?
Bush would have had no problem fixing our bridges if we would have given him the green light to bomb them.![]()
Huggy! Huggy! Walk towards the light Huggy! .... That's it.... keep walking towards the bright light......![]()
Bring em on! That bright light may very well be a train coming at you!![]()
"The Skagit bridge was rated "structurally deficient" in 1992, needing $8.3 million in fixes, according to a report by uglybridges.com, which cites the National Bridge Inventory data for that year. There was erosion on the stream banks below, and serious road-deck damage or wear. By 1994, the federal database listed the bridge as "functionally obsolete," an improved rating but an indication it still wasn't adequate for modern traffic."
The estimated replacement cost for the Skagit River Bridge is $15 million.

So what you are saying in the 13 years a Democrat has been President with several of those year enjoying a Congressional majority in both the House and the Senate, the Democrats knew about the problem and did nothing. And you want to blame Republicans that had the Presidency for 8 years with only a couple years in the majority.
Interesting how partisan nut jobs think and excuse.
how about the infrastructure in Tampa? we need to stop those sink holes from eating and swallowing U.S. Americans !!!

(My bold)
TMK, we don't have a fix for sink holes.
For info on infrastructure spending, specifically bridges & the stimulus bill - see U.S. infrastructure spending has plummeted since 2008 - WA Post, 05/24/13 - Brad Plumer
It notes, in part -
"Theres still been a big drop-off (of maintenance) in recent years, although that also came after a big build-up in the late 2000s. (Sadly, the data series doesnt extend back before 2002, so its tough to see what this looks like historically.)
"How did this happen? States and local governments are the biggest part of the story here. Theyve historically provided the vast majority of spending for roads, highways and bridges, and theyve been pulling back on spending since 2008 as a result of the economic downturn and requirements to balance their budgets. Californias transportation spending declined by 31 percent from 2007 to 2009, for instance. Texass fell by 8 percent.
"At the same time, Congress hasnt filled in the gap. There was a one-time $46 billion infusion of transportation spending in the stimulus bill. But that wasnt enough to offset the drop at the state and local level. Meanwhile, the most recent highway bill out of Congress kept federal spending at current levels rather than increasing it."
