Apple is right to refuse to help the FBI hack into iphonnes

The FBI is not telling apple to give up a secret they already have.

They are telling apple to assign a team to do work in a certain area and come up with the desired solution...The FBI (or any gov't agency) has no right to do that! ESPECIALLY at apples expense!

1 - It would cost Apple to do the work.
2 - It would cost Apple by sabotaging the security of their own product.

What if the gov't ordered YOU to work on a project at your own expense?
If the cops need a phone unlocked for evidence once someone has been arrested, and they get a search warrant, why can't Apple just take the phone, unlock it and give it back to the cops without violating any access information?

Apple customers would still have their privacy, Apple wouldn't have given away any secrets and the cops would have the information they needed from the phone.

Is that too simple a solution?

Thank you............those on here obsessed with civil liberties cannot see the forrest for the trees.....simply fail to understand that the nation must be protected in order for us to keep any and or all of those civil liberties they are obsessed with.

If islamic terrorists, China, Russia or any foreign power defeats or destroys America....do these morons think they can appeal to them for civil rights....so ridiculous.

I can only conclude these idiots are so arrogant that they do not understand the reaility of the world today....that we have enemies who have the capability if not checked to destroy us.

Unfortunate....these morons essentialy are useful idiots....helping those who would destroy us.

If we can simply dismiss our rights and civil liberties, what exactly are we protecting?

Moron, the civil liberties are part of bill of rights.

In one post you linked to the article that is defending FDR's internment camps, just to link to another where SCOTUS ruled what FDR did was unconstitutional. Do you read your own links?

That is what Apple is arguing about. They do not have to unlock the phones because FBI demands it from them. FBI has no authority to tell Apple what to do, nor to demand tool to blank access to any of Apple's phones.

If they want data unlocked, get the court order.

That is what happened in the case of San Bernardino shooter. Apple response was that Apple user, and not Apple holds the encryption key.

FBI argued that they wanted from Apple tool that will be able to bypass security key in a way that it doesn't delete date after maximum numbers of retries was reached. That way they can try to enter millions of combination and hope to get lucky to enter correct one. However, that was another FBI overreach. The Apple's response to court was: "But now the U.S. government has asked us for something we simply do not have, and something we consider too dangerous to create. They have asked us to build a backdoor to the iPhone."

U.S. Magistrate Judge gave the order to Apple to write software that can bypass the feature. Federal prosecutors stated in a memo accompanying the order that the software would affect only the seized phone, and that itself was court's overreach, because government or court cannot force you to build the product just because they say so.

Apple reply was: "“Once created, the technique could be used over and over again, on any number of devices. In the physical world, it would be the equivalent of a master key, capable of opening hundreds of millions of locks, from restaurants and banks to stores and homes. No reasonable person would find that acceptable.”

Since your phone today holds much more than texts and photos, but credit card info, passwords/keys to your electronic locks, alarms, cars, etc., what government is asking from Apple is to give to government access to every user homes, electronics, vehicles, bank info, all thru their phones.

What it all comes down to is simply this: some are so blinded for whatever reason or reasons they either do not understand the necessity of preserving America or they are only willing to do certain things to do so.

Also most of them if not all of them do not understand what America is up against....the threats that America faces today are greater than at any time in our history.

Technology has now made it possible for a handful of terrorists to take out this nation if they acquire weapons of mass destruction ....which is why our security forces have to fight daily battles....to keep them from doing that.....the
FBI monitors thousands of muslims in
America deemed dangerous....a huge job.

Our military forces overseas face daily battles to keep the terrorists in check...it is such constant dilligence overseas and here in America that enables the people of America to adhere to their daily lives with a sense of safety and security.

Too many do not appreciate that....many have paid the ultimate price to keep America safe and now comes along a un-patriotic business who deems their profits more important than to help protect America...outrageous.

Apple is obstructing the course of law enforcement and effectively aiding terrorists,” said Vivek Wadhwa, a corporate governance fellow at Stanford University. “They changed the technology, so they have to keep up with the ability to unlock the device if the government asks them do it. That’s not unreasonable.”

Others have similar opinions. (Read the full story: In San Bernardino, where terrorists struck, residents debate FBI vs. Apple)

Prosecutors have harshly criticized Apple, accusing it of refusing to comply to protect its brand.
Federal prosecutors contended in a motion Friday that the company was “not above the law” and could easily help the government unlock one terrorist’s smartphone without undermining anyone else’s privacy.

“Apple’s current refusal to comply with the court’s order, despite the technical feasibility of doing so, instead appears to be based on its concern for its business model and public brand marketing strategy,” prosecutors wrote in a filing asking the court to compel Apple to immediately aid the FBI..........................................................................................................................

and then we see on here the 'useful idiots' who are so self absorbed that they believe their individual rights are more important than the security of the Nation....where does such stupidty come from.?

We did not have to...it was a stupid decision by ronnie reagan to gain favor with his japanese friends.

Behind the Ronald Reagan myth: "No one had ever entered the White House so grossly ill informed"

In her latest tour de force ...........
orce, New York Times best-selling author Michelle Malkin sets the historical record straight-and debunks radical ethnic alarmists who distort history to undermine common-sense, national security profiling. The need for this myth-shattering book is vital. President Bush's opponents have attacked every homeland defense policy as tantamount to the "racist" and "unjustified" World War II internment. Bush's own transportation secretary, Norm Mineta, continues to milk his childhood experience at a relocation camp as an excuse to ban profiling at airports. Misguided guilt about the past continues to hamper our ability to prevent future terrorist attacks.

In Defense of Internment shows that the detention of enemy aliens, and the mass evacuation and relocation of ethnic Japanese from the West Coast were not the result of irrational hatred or conspiratorial bigotry. This document-packed book highlights the vast amount of intelligence, including top-secret "MAGIC" messages, which revealed the Japanese espionage threat on the West Coast.
Malkin also tells the truth about:
  • who resided in enemy alien internment camps (nearly half were of European ancestry)
  • what the West Coast relocation centers were really like (tens of thousands of ethnic Japanese were allowed to leave; hundreds voluntarily chose to move in)
  • why the $1.65 billion federal reparations law for Japanese internees and evacuees was a bipartisan disaster
  • how both Japanese American and Arab/Muslim American leaders have united to undermine America's safety

With trademark fearlessness, Malkin adds desperately needed perspective to the ongoing debate about the balance between civil liberties and national security. In Defense of Internment will outrage, enlighten, and radically change the way you view the past-and the present.

They were not enemy aliens. They were American citizens. Your post shows why Apple is right to say no.

You mean all those bright college educated computer hackers working for the CIA-FBI-NSA cannot in their collect wisdom crack Apple's code? Why are we even paying these failures.

One should not talk about things of which one is ignorant.

The whole issue is much too complicated for most who have absorbed all the liberal propaganda and have closed minds.

Anyhow for a short answer some of them were enemy aliens ....the majority were not.

The Constitution.

It has not stopped several of our Presidents(the list has been posted) who understood National
Security is more important than adhering to a piece of paper that is highly over-rated.

The case against the American Constitution

We had to pay Japanese Americans for violating their civil liberties.

I don't have to. You are advocating the imprisonment of American citizens to ease your unfounded fears.

Nothing you post will justify that.
