Yes, turn on CNN. Lots and lots of vets and soldiers from nearby countries in Europe are going in to fight on the side of Ukraine.

Individual soldiers and independent groups aren't the same as nations sending their regular army units into the mix.

That's the point. Plausible deniability. Everyone is probably sending in special ops guys, assassins and ghosts that can be disavowed.

There are a lot of independent mercenaries out there you know. People who have interests in the war zone may be hiring people from abroad to help protect them, and not just from the Russian Federation forces but also from looters, privateers as well as Ukraine forces.

But among the well-meaning citizens lining up to fight for Ukraine are some global volunteers with links to white supremacist and far-right extremism. In recent years, global neo-Nazi and white supremacist extremist foreign fighters have sought training and combat experience by joining ultranationalist defense militias in Ukraine. A member of the U.S. neo-Nazi group The Base, an ex-Marine, joined the Ukrainian war effort in 2020 before he was expelled from the country...

Even before the Russian Federation attacked a few weeks ago, there was already war going on in Eastern Ukraine with separatists movements. Also, this theater isn't far from Chechnya or from various skirmishes going on in the Caucasus republics in Ossetia, etc.

Big wars attract those in that profession.
