Everybody can't be the top. And no, not "every nationality" sparked the Atlantic slave trade.
The poster is correct; the Portuguese brought lots of African slaves to Brazil back to the 16th century, and the first ones brought here to North America, in what is now South Carolina (1530s), were brought by Spanish merchants They were quickly followed by French, Dutch and English flesh merchants.
Happily the South Carolina group overthrew their captors, escaped and went to live and interbreed with the Native Americans.
If only it had ended there.
Of course THE first Atlantic slave trader was good ol' Chris Columbus, who took some aren't-they-quaint Native Americans back to Europe as a kind of trophy.
Yo, you didn`t dig deep enough? Dig some more and find the truth if you want it!!!

WTF dood?
Who did you think started the Atlantic slave trade? The Vikings? "Yo", crack a history book.
"SMH"
But, that was a little different the Viking were capturing Celtic beauties in Ireland and selling them in the slave Markets of North Africa.
That's true, interesting to call these guys "beauties" but yes, way before the "discovery" of the Americas Vikings were taking slaves from conquests, especially in the British Isles and eastern Europe. That's why there's a large contingent of Irish genetics in Iceland today -- they were used in "settling" the place.
Again, that's Europeans enslaving other Europeans, already mentioned earlier. It was extinct by the 12th century, long before racism got invented.
When I used the term Celtic beauties I was referring the young redheaded Irish women and girls that commanded the highest prices in North Africa.
What makes you think Vikings took only women? Or that they "commanded the highest prices"?
