Joe Biden will likely have the eyes of the world on him tomorrow as a result of Putin’s attack on Ukraine. It may be one of the most watched SOTU’s in a decade, or decades.

What advice would you give him, from the right or left, to make the most of this opportunity for America?

Some thoughts:
  • Ignore the right wing support for Putin and talk as if the US is 100% unified against Russia and in support of Democracy.
  • Announce unprecedented support for Ukraine.
  • Celebrate the bipartisan infrastructure deal
  • Point out the huge improvement in the economy but recognize not everyone is winning
  • Rationally diagnose the causes of inflation (supply constraints, corporate profit taking) and dispel the notion that poor people have too much money so the support they received to replace lost income during the pandemic is driving prices up.
  • Explain the near term plan to provide relief in prices.
  • Talk about an energy policy that produces more traditional energy in the short run but invests in renewable in the long run - they don’t have to be mutually exclusive.
  • Refrain from talking about partisan bickering, we all know, and keep it optimistic and up beat.
  • Announce the SCOTUS candidate and read through her lengthy qualifications slowly
CNN says he’ll address:

The President will discuss price increases impacting Americans, laying out a four-point plan to lower costs for families that will focus on "making more things in America" and strengthening the supply chain; reducing costs of everyday expenses and reducing the deficit; "promoting fair competition" and "eliminating barriers to good-paying jobs," according to a fact sheet from the administration.

He should stay in his basement and send his world class VP to give the address. Imagine the tears of pride and admiration that would be shed by CNN, MSNBC and the rest of the racist left at the sight of a Black woman at the podium. Chris Matthews leg would even go back to tingling.
