The reality of the American prison system is a grim one.

As a nation, we enjoy the dubious distinction of having one of the largest per capita rates of incarceration, mostly for non violent crimes.

We have a disgusting system of privatized for profit prisons and fines upon fines, that unjustly in prison non violent offenders who cannot pay, and at the same time encourage incarceration for profit.

We aren’t talking about violent rapists and murderers when we are talking about reforming the justice system here.
