Boehner Caves....

Finally Boehner has decided to put on his big boy pants. Now let's see if he'll eat his vegetables by reopening the government.

Yep you guessed it. The repubs were weak all along.

Why would you call it a 'cave' Athena?

It's just a 'cease fire' nothing else.

it is neither.

He did the math.

He realized that the debt ceiling situation was going to be a disaster for the GOP while he ALSO saw the shutdown trending toward an Obama issue.

So what did he do?

Cleared himself of the debt ceiling issue while forcing Obama to do something about the shutdown.

I say he played his cards perfectly.

Bingo. The ball is now in Reids court. Lets see what he and Barry do.

Nice try in trying to shift things - let's see if you all can pull it off.

Tell me which president has refused to negotiate like Obama has? The House is in control by the Republicans. That means you can't get your way all the time and you do have to negotiate when you have situations like this.

You never seen this with former presidents

What has the GOP given up? Military cuts? increases on taxes on the rich? Bigger food stamp budgets?

They havn't compromised with anything! They've just lowered their outright demands, that's not compromising. All the do is look at democrats and say "how much can we demand of you for raising the debt limit"

and what have the democrats offered up? Nothing nothing at all.

They agreed to the Republican funding level.

You think the teaparty is going to give up their power that easily? I wish they would go away and never return but I don't see it happening. Their rise to power should never have happened.

The Tea Party has no power.
They have representation....just as many groups have representation.

Why you guys fall for that "Tea Party taking hostages" crap is beyond me.

I guess it makes you feel good.

Me? I am afraid of no group of people. I respect their sentiments and wish them luck achieving their goals.

Jeez...you folks need to learn how to not worry about how other folks may harm you.

They're not harming Democrats, Boehner is allowing them to dictate how he proceeds as Speaker. They have a hold on him.

I want Republicans to take their power back and become strong once again but they seem helpless to do so.

That is how you see it. I respect that. You are a progressive and somewhat pleased with the current agenda of the administration. If I were you, I would likely see it the same way.

I don't see this as a tea party issue at all. I see it as a reaction to a major bill being passed in congress 100% along party lines controlling 1/6 of the economy....

And many constituents of the GOP have asked that something be done about it.

Do I appreciate the tactics used?

Not necessarily.

Do you appreciate the tactics used by the democrats with EVERYTHING? I doubt it.

It is what it is Sarah.

It is not about one group of people taking hostages.

They did. they did not get al the other cuts they wanted.. funding EVERYTHING except Obamalamacare fraudacre IS meeting halfway

No they didn't, the CR is written in conservative terms. 986 billion is 70 billion short of what the democrats wanted. ACA isn't even discretionary spending.

its wasteful spending. let me ask you this. if you go to buy a house you can not afford should the bank give you a mortgage?

Stupid right wingers continue to compare federal "debt" (monetary expansion) with household budgets. This sort of sheer ignorance is what drives the Republicans these days.

Obama has already said he would negotiate but not around a shutdown or default threat. This is not how it works. If Boehner wants to bend to Teaparty demands, he can do so. It will hurt him and is hurting him. Obama is not going to offer up his power to anyone.

We have the WH and the Senate, why would Democrats give anything up to Boehner? He'd better go to this meeting ready to work.

About time someone on the far left finally said it is about the power.. it is not about what is constitutional, it is not about what is best, it is not about what is affordable, and it is not about what is sustainable.. it is about POWER.... Obama has always been only about the power

Did Obama shutdown government? Is Obama threatening to default? No. He is guilty of allowing Boehner to dig this hole deep enough to hurt himself. Obama threw him a lifeline today, let's see if Boehner is smart enough to accept that.

If not, let him flail around the rest of his term.

it has been about hurting Obama and Obamacare

Be honest for once

WASHINGTON (AP) -- GOP aides say House Speaker John Boehner will ask House Republicans to approve a short-term extension of the government's ability to borrow to meet its bills.

The Ohio Republican is slated to urge his staunchly conservative GOP colleagues to act before the government runs out of borrowing authority next week.

Republicans have been insistent that budget cuts and other measures be added to the so-called debt ceiling legislation but the aides wouldn't say whether he'll seek to add other material to the measure.

The aides required anonymity to reveal the information before Boehner makes an announcement after a closed-door meeting with his GOP colleagues.

News from The Associated Press

BREAKING NEWS, 11:31: House Republican leaders say they will offer a bill authorizing a temporary increase in the debt ceiling, in exchange for discussions on reopening the government, funding the budget. The bill would avoid a looming, potentially disastrous federal government default. But it would not end the 10-day-old government shutdown, as the White House has demanded.

Meh, spineless bastard. I'm surprised it took this long.

007: may I suggest decafe

The apoplectic profanity clearly indicates that my statement is true enough to hit a nerve.

hmmmmmmm

Written by a poster who refers to a group of people he disagrees with as "terrorists".

You should be ashamed of yourself.

But, alas, you wont...because you are the "one who is right".

Pathetic.

Ahhh written by a poster who makes assumptions and then argues with those assumptions rather than the facts.

Never called the Tea Party terrorists ... I said their power was equivalent to that of a terrorist organization in that they can disrupt but they cannot accomplish.

Man up.

You know what you were implying.

Don't want to admit it?

Shows how weak you are as a person.

When Heritage For Action, Freedomworks, and Koch Industries all say that the debt ceiling needs to be raised, it demolishes the teabagger bullshit.

Not that it will convince the wingnut retards. But who gives a fuck about them?

like "yes we can" and "hope and change"?

I agree.

Boehner has to listen to all the Reps. That includes those that follow the Tea Party.

They all vote and Boehner has to get ALL of them to vote as he wants.

Common Sense 101.

reality 101: listen to, not be dictated by

Oh so feeling strongly about what you want is dictating??

Guess the entire Congress is guilty of dictating by your lights.

Grow up. They will talk. Talking is negotiation.

Common sense 101

Reid and Boner agreed in principle on a budget before Boner caved in to the Tea Party caucus...again. now Boner caves in to reality.

Time to replace tbe weakest and most ineffective Speaker in the US House of Representatives in modern history

Yes, unfortunately.

And it’s that type of ignorant, simplistic ‘understanding’ by the right that makes their failed fiscal dogma so dangerous to the Nation’s economic well-being.
