Boehner says U.S. on path to default if Obama won't negotiate | Reuters

(Reuters) - Republican House Speaker John Boehner vowed on Sunday not to raise the U.S. debt ceiling without a "serious conversation" about what is driving the debt, while Democrats said it was irresponsible and reckless to raise the possibility of a U.S. default.

"The nation's credit is at risk because of the administration's refusal to sit down and have a conversation," Boehner told ABC's "This Week," adding that there were not enough votes in the House of Representatives to pass a "clean" debt limit bill, without any conditions attached.

Asked if that meant the United States was headed towards a default if President Barack Obama did not negotiate ahead of an October 17 deadline to raise the debt ceiling, Boehner said: "That's the path we're on."

Yepper- We keep raising the debt limit and Helicopter Ben keeps printing 85 billion a month used to purchase our own debt.

(CNSNews.com) – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) complained that House Republicans are refusing to bring some Senate-passed legislation to the floor – but dismissed the question of when he might bring many House-passed measures up for a Senate vote.

“I can give you a long list of things we haven’t done,” Reid said at his weekly press conference when CNSNews.com asked if he would ever bring languished GOP bills up for a vote.

Reid claimed that it was simply too time consuming for the Senate to act on the House measures sent over by Boehner, claiming that Senate procedures took up too much time.

“Every time you come to a bill [on the Senate floor] you have to have a Motion to Proceed [and] it takes about 10 days, and it limits what we can get done here,” he said.

The republicans don't give a rat's ass about the deficit. Boenher has already said that raising taxes is not on the table, and that there is no need to even talk about that option...in spite of the fact that they are lower than they have been since WW2 (except during the Bush Administration). Nope, it is pure posturing for keeping their jobs, since the tea party has gone public with thier intent to work and fund opposition to anyone who breaks rank with their agenda...no matter what it does to our economy.
