Capitalism responds to the crisis

So you believe this healthcare provider is telling the truth and journalists should write whatever the hell they like without checking facts.

He went for a story. He got it. If journalists never repeat what they are told before verifying it the only news we would get would be old news. I hope he follows up. We will see.
Translation:

Fake news is better than no news at all

Is it fake? Trump is on right now.....he says "Many, many economists say.............". Should the press conference not be shown until his claims are verified?
If the journalist assumes news is accurate without verifying it some or much of what they report could be fake

He didn't assume anything. He reported what he was told. You once again didn't answer my question though.

He assumed the CEO was being truthful with absolutely no evidence or at least no reason to believe him, explained. That is not journalism, this is what is wrong with journalism, they need reliable and valid sources and he can reference and confirm. Woodward and Bernstein were investigative reports and they found sources and the Washington Post made them verify facts and they weighed Deep Throat’s words and questioned him.

I bet this Chris, will move on from this story and go on to the next.

You cant believe in the mythical free market if you disapprove of this type of behaviour.

And I suspect that you would be the first to condemn key workers for striking for more pay at this time.

I don’t believe a story based on no facts like the one you posted, how can a reputable journalist be so lazy? Reposting the story is irresponsible.
You are free to believe or disbelieve it as you wish. The journalist quoted a hospital spokesman who had concerns. Why would you not believe him ? Is this type of behaviour beyond belief ?

I knew what responsible journalism was, not what it is.

A CEO, naturally concerned about profits, who probably overcharges for aspirin at his hospital, is claiming that an unknown maker is charging $7 for a mask. Maybe this CEO is wanting to raise his prices during these times of trouble and is using the unknown mask making company as an excuse to raise his rates.

Do not be gullible to believe a lazy journalist, it only encourages such laziness.

Or maybe they raised the prices of the masks.

No proof that anyone raised the price of the masks. What evidence is there? It’s like listening to Limbaugh and Hannity and taking their stories as the absolute truth. Why are you not upset for healthcare providers like this one, who maybe charging $25 for a $.10 aspirin?

I’m just saying why buy into unverified stories and treat them like it is a fact? Not just this story but all stories journalists put out. We owe it to ourselves to make sure sources are true and correct and hold journalists accountable.

There are laws against price gouging

but what liberal want are price controls set by government

Can you note these laws and do you support such laws?
I’m not a lawyer

but the two brothers selling medical supplies online at greatly inflated were swiftly shut down

as are gas stations that charge too much after a hurricaine

I've seen a governor warn a business but I've never seen one shut down. Does that mean they never have been because of a law? No, but that is why I asked you to verify your claim. I do not believe there are any such laws.
Price Gouging Laws by State - FindLaw

Great, thank you. Now back to my follow up question. Do you support the government restricting prices in this manner or do you support free market capitalism?
I think when there is a local or national emergency price restraints are justified

and the minute Trump announces price controls because he thinks it will help him -- his supporters will gleefully support it.....

Same way you have republicans now advocating purchasing drugs from Canada and taking advantage of Canada's ability to price control....

The ability to purchase drugs out of Canada was voted down not all that long ago. It's odd the things people now support that they didn't just a short time ago.
If the purpose is to circumvent patent protections its just as wrong as price gouging medical supplies

It wasn't. You can order a patented item from Canada. Canada is simply selling it for less.
Yes it is circumventing patent laws ment to protect inventors

Patent laws do not set prices.
True

the owner of the patent does

Thats an assumption till it is verified

which is basic journalism 101

Trickle down does not work when practiced by the government.
What system would you suggest? Not that I approve of what is used- but, what do you actually know?- socialism, is top down where everyone is equal except the more equal- as I pointed out elsewhere we are regulated, to the point of being controlled, and not just economically. Our system(s) borders on fascist- and even maxine waters, genius that she is knows better- or at least respeaks what little mind she has- what Democrat doesn't subscribe to the system we have? Or Republican for that matter? I can think of 3- BOTH sides subscribe to the borrow to spend and anyone who believes different is a fucking fool- Period.

What you have outlined is as big an indictment of capitalism as the story in the OP. Cheers.

It could be, you have no idea. You can’t prove your story is true, you can’t tell if it’s BS. Without facts the story is an opinion piece and helps feed shallow minds. You are just like those Trump supporters you claim you dislike. Agenda driven and dishonest as hell.

Sorry, it wasn't a doctor. I think it would make for a good story. Would I require him to do that before reporting on what he No. I think it would make a good story for him. We will see if it ever comes about.

Many news agencies will fact check a President, it is called responsible journalism. The difference is he is a President not a lowly CEO of some random healthcare provider that overcharges on aspirin, right?

Trump routinely lies just as he did yesterday and the Doctor had to correct him.

Journalism is reporting what someone says. People claiming they did nothing illegal was reported on long before Woodward and Bernstein was able to verify them.

For many not being able to afford health care is an emergency. I consider it (along with many others) consider it a national emergency. I think many more are going to believe the same now.

I'd do away with the Fed. That is trickle down that does not work.

Face mask supplier 'charging hospitals $7 for 58-cent masks' as coronavirus crisis escalates

$7 for a 58 cent mask.!! Are there no laws protecting the public from this sort of abuse ?
I'm
So at least one supplier, that remains anonymous is charging $7 per mask. No name of the supplier, so we don’t know that. Did the reporter verify anything? This story may or may not be true, we don’t know because a sloppy, lazy reporter did not do their job and did dig into the details, they just ran on emotion.

This is why misinformation is running rampant, lazy journalists.

The Independent should be ashamed of this story and until more details were verified, they should of held back the story. It is just more emotional fear mongering and sensational based journalism.

We need facts, shame the company and name them, verify the facts, did the journalist even look at an invoice? Did he call the supplier? Did he even ask who the supplier was?

We have no idea since the reporter Chris Riotta is short on details and strong on emotional and sensational journalism.

Journalists are supposed to be responsible and ask lots of questions and dig into the information given, verify and fact check.
Who said they didn't verify the story? You are just taking a presumption with no evidence whatsoever and running with it to rant about the media. Sorry, buddy, but you are the one being sensational and emotional here.
