Cargill fires 180 muslims from meat processing plant

By the time they stop, get out of their meat aprons, gloves, boots, etc., wash and pray, that is a lot of time away from work.

Instead, why don't they pray twice before and after work. It is permitted.

Well, that goes to their level of commitment. If they are adherent to every word of the Quaran, there may be a bigger problem.
 
You can't fire someone for observing a religious conviction. Sorry. And I didn't say employers were allowed to discriminate based on a person's availability to work because of religion. I only said they can ask for their own management purposes. If their company needs to ship on Sundays to stay competitive and stay alive as an industry, hiring a bevy of devout regular Christian church goers would destroy the company. It is legal to prefer one applicant over another for their ability to do the minimal functions required of the position offered.

And, like I said, the 5 times a day prayer thing for Muslims can be taken care of before & after work, the two 15-minute breaks and the lunch break.

Apparently Cargill doesn't agree. The "religious convictions' of these fucking sand monkeys would mean the production would be adversely effected. The assholes were given every reasonable religious accommodation . But that wasn't good enough so they thought buy walking off the job they could intimidate Cargill.
Once again as throughout history the fucking rag heads miscalculated and they were the losers. Think the seven day war.
Cargill got rid of a bunch of religious thugs NEVER to work for ANY company again in the US!!!!!!

Unless they demand to pray at exactly the correct time and you employ hundreds of them.

It depends on the conviction. If it prevents you from doing your job, you can absolutely be fired. The standard for this is called 'reasonable accommodation'. If the accommodation being demanded by the employee isn't reasonable, they can be terminated. If it is, they can't.

And of course, these employees were fired for not showing up to work for 3 days. Not for a 'religious observation'. If you clock in....and then walk off the job, you're going to get fired. Regardless of your religion.

FORT MORGAN, CO (KCNC/CNN) - In all, 190 Muslim workers at the Cargil meat plant in Fort Morgan, have been fired. It comes as a result of a dispute over prayer while at work.

They are Somalis who came to Colorado to work. But this week their employer, Cargill Meat Solutions, fired many of them after they refused to show up for three days in protest. "It doesn't matter if I don't have a job, my religion is more important,” said Tony Aden, a fired worker.

The company says the dispute began earlier this month when 11 Somalis wanted to pray all at one time. The company said no because it would stop the operations. The Somalis left and prayed anyway. News of that led nearly 200 others to stop work in protest.

Now fired, they are receiving help applying for unemployment compensation with the assistance of a fellow Somali who is upset with the firings.

"It's got things to do with Donald Trump, it's got things to do (Ben) Carson and all these guys who are rhetorically talking bad about Islam,” said Qadar Ducaale, a school district employee.

With some 190 Somalis now out of work, it’s threatening the economy of this African community in the heart of rural America.

Cargill insists it attempts to provide religious accommodation for all at its plant, including a prayer room. Many Somalis however, take issue with that. "Five minutes, 10 minutes, they give to me... say no,” a fired worker said.

So now the Somalis out of work pass time idling away, while the company looks for new hires in an attempt to replace them, trying to fill their shoes.

The workers walked out and refused to return to work.

The company was within its employers' rights to terminate them.

We told our Seventh Day Adventists who applied for employment that we often worked Saturday, and that there could be no exceptions because of how our business was constructed.

And we were always very wary of extreme conservative evangelicals. They had a hard time being neutral about religion and politics in the work place.
