There is a powerful incentive for immigrants to learn English to get jobs and such but people over 50 have a hell of a time a leaning a new language. Should they be barred from citizenship because of age?

Not really. Learning a new language is as difficult as it's always been. Not everyone can do it.

The short answer is no. Many people come here who don't speak English, my maternal grandmother among them. They come to be with their relatives, and many do learn some English over time. We've managed this far, and we don't need an official language. Anyway, "American culture" is a blend of people who speak a multitude of languages and bring something unique to this country when they come. The area I live in is a mini UN. We help each other until everyone "gets it."

The U.S. includes a lot of territory that was once owned and controlled by people who spoke other languages first, Spanish, French, the languages of the Pacific Islands, not to mention the languages spoken by various Native American tribes. We've established a good tradition. Let's keep it. It's part of our strength.

They did not print up literature in Italian, German, Polish, French and other languages when immigrants came here by promoting them. We have many cable TV stations that are on basic that are Spanish language. That in itself is bigoted and racist because there are not the same number of channels on basic with all other languages. We are being purposely invaded by endless men and women that speak Spanish as to make us more agreeable to a world government system. Proper immigration would not see the results we have today and most of the men and women from Spanish speaking lands would be assimilated with most speaking English. We have many reasons to fight and kill each other. The growing two language split is another one now.
