Just saw Mike Rowe of the "Dirty Jobs" tv series ( Home) speaking about the truly lack of
reality in the world today and it triggered the above title.

Common sense for example in the national minimum wage debate versus the truly lack of knowledge from the unicorn world inhabitants.

Common sense would dictate these questions.

Q1.How many people are truly working for the "minimum wage"?
A1. Less then 2.6 million.
In 2015, 78.2 million workers age 16 and older in the United States were paid at hourly rates, representing 54.6 percent of all wage and salary workers. Among those paid by the hour, .9 million earned exactly the prevailing federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. About 1.7 million had wages below the federal minimum. Together, these 2.6 million workers with wages at or below the federal minimum made up 3.3 percent of all hourly paid workers.

Q2. How old are the minimum wage workers?
Of the 2.6 million:
- Ages 16 to 24 (mostly unmarried with no children) made up 1.15 million.
- Ages 25 and older, some of whom MAY have a family...) 1.4 million.
http://www.bls.gov/opub/reports/minimum-wage/2015/home.htm

So here we have a national discussion about less then 1.15 million people who the vast majority are not the sole breadwinner in a multiple member household.
Common sense: teenagers who most likely live at home!

So we are debating then in raising the minimum wage to $15.00 for those 1.15 million that truly don't have to earn a living to survive. They buy tennis shoes, music... not food or shelter.

Q3. The types of jobs these 3.3 million are entry level, very little skills and fundamentally require the
employee to A. Be on the job.....B. Be on the job on time.......C. Be able to read/write.
So can these people be replaced by robots/kiosks?
A3. YES... if the costs of operating robots/kiosks are less then $15.00!

So looking at the below standard operating costs of a restaurant with over 30% of expenses being
salaries, wages and employee benefits what would an owner of the restaurant do if the salaries, wages and benefits jumped to say 50%?
GO OUT OF BUSINESS! or let the lower level employees go and replace with robots/kiosks.
Don't need a waiter to take an order or deliver the food.

Common sense.

Final common sense question...
Q4. Why not let the states determine the minimum wage?
A4. New York City's average hourly wage is already $13.13 Minimum Wage
So what difference will $1.87 make if Federal minimum wage raised to $15.00 for NYC?
But say in Mississippi where there is NO state minimum wage.. $15.00?? Wow...
especially when Mississippi has the lowest cost of living of any state. Why not let the
state determine it.

But I guess that requires too much common sense to realize that 1% of the population
MIGHT BENEFIT from a $15.00 minimum IF:
A) THEY STILL HAVE A JOB AND AREN'T REPLACED BY A ROBOT/KIOSK
B) THE REST OF US WOULD SEE ALL RESTAURANT COSTS JUMP 50%!
