Defying trump....California offers Federal employees unemployment compensation

Government workers helped bankrupt California ( and most other states ). Good job. :p

The state does not pay for Fed workers...damn you are dumber than a box of rocks
Then what is this op about?
Federal workers being helped by their fellow citizens. I know...that kind of empathy is unknown to many conservative republicans.

How many of those "federal workers" organized to dig into their own pockets to help out workers that got a pink slip and lost their jobs in the private sector?

Notta, they were too busy making Star Trek Training Videos, ignoring Bernie Madoff for 10 years, going on tax payer funded excursions and a plethora of egregious "other people's money" wasting exercises, while organizing for gold plated benefits and higher salaries than the people that are forced to pay them make.

Like who?

could you be a bit more specific? Like who what?

Who are they going out of their way to hurt? Which departments, Which employees?

If the Dept of labor really told states not to offer unemployment to those working and not getting a check...then everyone not working and getting a check.

Hm. Well if they are just sitting there and starving in dark houses then they are to stupid and lazy to be alive and deserve everything they get.

They are not, that is why they applied to unemployment...but your god in the White House does not want them to get it...why is that?
I heard it was a law. The people who are furloughed are apparently getting the unemployment benefits--at least the administration hasn't objected--but it is the people who are working without pay that the administration says it can't help.
It hasn't been Trump saying no. It's the bureaucrats.

All states are doing that, not just California. Which is why Trump's shutdown is going to cost billions of dollars.

Well Pelosi and Shumer could of gave Trump the 5 billion and it would've never happened.

We can't have Presidents using Federal Government workers as pawns to extort billions of dollars out of American taxpayer pockets to build a worthless wall that Trump promised MEXICO would pay for.

If Pelosi caved into him, Trump would shut down the government every two weeks for something else "he" wanted. It would also set a precedent for other future Presidents to do the same.

Trump had a full house in his first two years, and the wall was never even brought up for a vote. It's because House & Senate Republicans don't want another worthless wall either. So this is just a political stunt so you'll blame Democrats for no wall.

Here are some great reasons why a wall would never work. One 2-1/2 minute video.

.

Trump caved on the wall last year, but he said it wouldn't happen again. Pelosi supported a wall just a few years back. Which is proof she is playing politics with federal workers.

Sure, Pelosi supports any Wall paid for by Mexico....when will we see payment?

Way to deflect.

No deflection at all.....does the truth make you uncomfortable? It seems to do that to conservative republicans.

Government workers helped bankrupt California ( and most other states ). Good job. :p

WRONG

Our economic issue was the result of the Republican and Conservative Movement which began with Proposition 13, and was further exacerbated by the Passage of Proposition 26.

The former allowed Real Estate Taxes for corporations, apt. houses, hotels, Rail Roads and other commercial buildings which are rarely sold, which prevents local government to appraise their fair market value. Thus their value can never rise more than 2% annually.

Home owners generally move several times in their lifetime and this results in every sale a higher burden to home owners, for they are assessed at the sale price.

Prop 26 required new taxes to be passed by a super majority, 2/3 + 1; even though the Republicans were in the minority they could block any effort to raise taxes, and this resulted in a period of Don't tax and spend. The R's moved to be the party of law and order (sans justice, one will notice) and passed law to incarcerate non violent felons for many years.

The People spoke at the ballot box, and Jerry Brown was once again elected governor for two terms. First prop. 26 was stricken by the vote of the people, and Gov. Brown's fiscal policies were conservative but responsible.
yea it was all republicans fault in a democrat majority state.....dont let hate cloud your judgment Wry...

Trump caved on the wall because the GOP held both houses and it was a bad move politically to close it when his party held both.

his reason for caving is every bit as political as the Dem's reason for changing their mind about the wall

Dems never changed their minds about a WALL---:auiqs.jpg: They offered Trump 25 billion for his WALL & other border securities if he would set in place a DACA permanent agreement. Trump originally agreed to that one day, then backed out after listening to Ann Coulter & Rush Limbaugh. This happened over a year ago--when Republicans still owned both houses.

It's lucky for you, you never took freshman English at a University, you would have flunked. As it is you take an attitude and a bias and wrap it in irrelevant appeals to authority (op-ed, blogs and internet poopaganda ) and claim to be a thinker.

All of my points can be verified, if

(1) you had taken and passed a basic English course in reading comprehension and expository writing,

and,

(2) Were curious and not locked in the ideological box of 21st Century Conservative pooapaganda you might know enough not to embarrass yourself.

It has been amazing, here where I live there have been fairs where people donated goods and foods, many eateries are giving half off or free meals.

This shows that the hate felt towards Govt workers displayed on this forum is just a result of partisanship and not felt by the average person

The Reich wing will hold their ground until they need something from Government, and no one answers the phone, then they'll go into a conniption fit about the inefficiency of the Federal Government. They will work both sides when is personally affects them.

People who possess more than half a brain know that Illegals can get over and under anything that has been put up along the border, and Trump's wall won't work. Which is why the majority of Americans never wanted Trump's WALL.
Pew study: Majority of Americans still oppose Trump's wall

9 Republican congressional districts along the border know that Trump's wall won't work. Most outspoken about it is Will Hurd, Texas Republican who's district covers 840 miles of the border. They want to go with high tech solutions to protect the border, as does Nancy Pelosi & Schumer who have met with border security agents to discuss this issue.

GOP Rep. Will Hurd on border wall shutdown: ‘If this is a crisis, the people that are dealing with this crisis should get paid’
The Republican who represents more of the border than anyone in Congress has an idea to secure the border, and it's not a wall

This is how government works. They sit down talk with border security experts, decide which is best to use in certain areas, then proceed to fund the project. Shutting down the government is completely contrary to getting anything done.

Something they can see--CAN--& will ALWAYS be compromised, something they can't see won't even be attempted.

At the end of this 2-1/2 minute video it will tell you the amount in $$$$ we have already thrown a protecting the border in walls and fences that have proven time and time again, that they don't work.

No, Federal workers being helped by their fellow citizens is citizens voluntarily donating to organizations and personally making sure their neighbors are okay, loaning to those in need, etc. It is not a state government loaning money.

Every state is paying out unemployment insurance to Government workers who have been affected by Trump's shutdown. They have to pay their monthly bills, and EAT. But they will get their back pay once the government reopens.

But laid off fed workers have to apply through their state.

The Fed workers are not laid off, they are just having their pay withheld for a length of time.

So, the state is doing the right thing and helping them since most are still required to work while not getting paid. And once they are back to getting paid the state will receive all of its money back.

I have a good friend that is a Fed Prison warden. She is still required to go to work, 80 mile round trip without getting a dime to pay for her gas even, let alone food for her family. Why would the Trump Admin want to keep these people from getting some help?
Officially, they are laid off. I went through this during the last shutdown: we were on temporary lay-off and eligible for UI which would have to be paid back if we received back pay.
