Dems Big Push for 2014: Minimum Wage

Reagan grew the government as much as anyone.

Saying he didn't is denial.

The Republicans' Reagan Amnesia - The Daily Beast

i dont know about as much as anyone but the government did grow under him -- he acknowledged as much himself -- when he said he succeeded in slowing the groth - but toi him that was further proof of how big government is -- it has alife of its own and cant be easily controlled.

also there are a lot of different ways of measuring these things so depending on what metrics are used you can get a different result. but yes government grew under Reagan and it grows under all of them. the issue is how much and i dont really think Reagan was a big growth in government guy.

It will raise prices, and will raise the costs of doing business. The increases will be worth it. They always have been.

If the minimum wage has been law since 1938, and raised many times. Every time, some right wing oaf vomits out predictions of economic calamity as a result of an increase, and every time, their predictions fail.

An example would be the jobless rates of Ohio and North Carolina. NC's is jobless rate is 8%, and their minimum matches the federal minimum wage. Ohio's jobless rate is 7.5%, and it min wage is above the federal min wage.

According to conservatives, it should be the other way around.

If you want the GOP to keep the House, win the Senate, and get the White House back too, it's best to insist that the GOP capitulate on this issue, again.

Wrong. What agency did Reagan create?

You don't have to create an agency to expand the size of the existing agencies thereby expanding government.

If he decreased the size of government then it would have been less expensive not more and he wouldn't have needed to raise taxes.

Went from 2821000 to 3054000 in 8 years, an 8% increase in 8 years. That isnt much.

The effort to take advantage of growing populism among voters in both parties is being coordinated by officials from the White House, labor unions and liberal advocacy groups.

In a series of strategy meetings and conference calls among them in recent weeks, they have focused on two levels: an effort to raise the federal minimum wage, which will be pushed by President Obama and congressional leaders, and a campaign to place state-level minimum wage proposals on the ballot in states with hotly contested congressional races.

With polls showing widespread support for an increase in the $7.25-per-hour federal minimum wage among both Republican and Democratic voters, top Democrats see not only a wedge issue that they hope will place Republican candidates in a difficult position, but also a tool with which to enlarge the electorate in a nonpresidential election, when turnout among minorities and youths typically drops off.

“It puts Republicans on the wrong side of an important value issue when it comes to fairness,” said Dan Pfeiffer, the president’s senior adviser. “You can make a very strong case that this will be a helpful issue for Democrats in 2014. But the goal here is to actually get it done. That’s why the president put it on the agenda.”

That's certainly going to make the 2014 elections interesting.

Just because the public may support an increase in the minimum wage doesn't mean they are going to give a rat's ass about it when they go cast their vote. With all the problems going on in this economy, particularly with the massive fuck up ObamaCare is, do you really think someone poor schlep who got his insurance policy cancelled and now has to pay an extra $200 a month for an ObamaCare policy is now going to turn around and hand his loyalty over to the Democratic Party because they are promising to raise the minimum wage, which he likely doesn't make anyway?

If this is what the Dems are hanging their hats on to hold the Senate next year then they are fucked.

Make up your mind.

Congress passes spending measures, Norbert.

Amen!

The president signs them, Dilbert.

So Reagan should have vetoed every budget Congress passed? Yeah tell me, Dickbert

If he was serious about reducing the size of government he should have.

But we all know he wasn't serious now don't we?

He was facing an intractable Democratic Party that opposed all of his measures.
But why is it relevant? You probably dont even remember Reagan being president.

Wrong. What agency did Reagan create?

The Department of Veterans Affairs.

Wrong. The agency already existed.

The Department of Veterans Affairs Act of 1988 (Pub.L. 100-527) changed the former Veterans Administration, an independent government agency established in 1930, primarily to see to the needs of World War I veterans, into a Cabinet-level Department of Veterans Affairs. It was signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on October 25, 1988, but actually came into effect under the term of his successor, George H. W. Bush, on March 15, 1989.

So he folded and increased the size of government even though he said over and over again that government was the problem.

He was just another lying sack of shit pol. Get over the fucking hero worship already

Oh goody! MORE vote buying as it will run more businesses out of business AND cost more jobs.

The left still doesn't get it, they never will.

The left "gets it," they just don't care. Higher minimum wage will push off-shoring and automation, putting millions out of work. BUT it could be used to buy votes for democrats. Leftists don't care how much damage they do to "the poor," they seek power and power alone. In fact, the more people out of work, the more the leftists can buy off with unemployment benefits. Putting millions more out of work may actually be one of the goals of the democrats.

Yeah TK...has your employer paid insurance been taken?

No, instead it went up 53% thanks to Obama's fascist care mandates. But at least as a 55 year old man, I'm eligible pre-natal care and an abortion....

Neither has mine.

If you had a job it might have...

Let me guess...it's right around the corner (along with the proof of thermite at ground zero and the real birth certificate)

Most employed people will see the largest single year increase in cost in their lifetime, this year.

But don't worry, we won't mention that fascist care is the reason for the increases....

Pegged to GDP, Reagan shrank government.

Complete Socialist State...the Goal. Ends justifies the means. The Progressives knew what they were doing when they started this crap 100 years ago.
