DeSantis blames lack of media coverage for resurge of COVID cases

I notice that you didn't seem to want to touch on the topic of which Governor has handled this pandemic better...DeSantis or Cuomo! Can't say as blame you there. Between Cuomo and De Blasio...New Yorkers have been hit with a one - two punch of ineptitude!
I notice you do not want to talk about Florida. DeSantis. Why?

Florida just had their highest number of covid deaths today.

They were also the most in the country today.
Florida is jokingly referred to as "God's Waiting Room" by those of us that live here! People die here because we have a lot of elderly! The number of people dying in Florida THIS year isn't substantially higher than normal. The number of people dying of OTHER complications that also have been diagnosed with Covid make Florida's numbers look higher! That being said...we've still had FAR fewer deaths attributed to the virus than New York State!

Would you rather travel to Italy or to Florida?
Italy had 35.000 deaths. bit now it's only 20 per day, and 230 new cases each day. Italy has it under control.

Floridas total is 4,677. but daily deaths are 156 a day and 13,965 new cases a day.

Do you want to do where the hospitals are at capacity from 14,000 cases a day, or where it's controlled at 230 new cases a day?

Are you claiming that Florida hospitals are at capacity? Where did you arrive at that conclusion?

New York got hit with the virus early on. Florida is getting hit with the virus now.

New York is getting better. Florida has gotten worse.

I'm making the very REAL claim that Cuomo was responsible for the policy that put elderly patients with Covid 19 back into nursing homes!
Nursing homes equipped like hospitals right? Set up with with the resources to separate and care for the patients. Correct?

tell the true now... this where the spin stops

As I've said all along...this pandemic SHOULD have been handled as Sweden did...not like New York State did!

We did not handle it like New York handled the virus.

Overall, even with the far-left failures in the NE, we have done far better than Sweden.

Cuomo by a mile. He got hit by a Tsunami with so many unknowns and he handled it like a champ with transparency and based on what the science told us... and look where New York is now... in a better place than most the country. DeSantis has a head start and chose to ignore the science and play Trump politics and he wreckless actions now have him in a pickle.... which could have been avoided

Cuomo handled it like a champ? Good to see you have a sense of humor! How is where New York now better than the rest of the country?

Democrat Response to Coronavirus: End Trump’s Travel Bans on China, Iran
JOHN BINDER 11 Mar 2020 2:58

House and Senate Democrats are responding to the coronavirus outbreak in the United States by supporting measures to effectively strip President Trump of his authority to impose travel bans to protect American citizens.

While Trump has implemented travel bans on China and Iran — two of the most coronavirus-affected nations in the world — House Democrats are looking to roll back the president’s authority to enact travel bans from regions of the world.

Mayor Resisted Drastic Steps on Virus. Then Came a Backlash From His Aides.

Mayor Bill de Blasio acknowledged that he had to be persuaded to close schools and restaurants.
Published March 16, 2020 Updated June 17, 2020

For most of last week, as Mayor Bill de Blasio continued to urge New Yorkers to mostly go about their daily lives — sending their children to school, frequenting the city’s businesses — some of his top aides were furiously trying to change the mayor’s approach to the coronavirus outbreak.

There had been arguments and shouting matches between the mayor and some of his advisers; some top health officials had even threatened to resign if he refused to accept the need to close schools and businesses, according to several people familiar with the internal discussions.

Teachers were threatening not to show up to school on Monday. A growing number of public health experts and politicians were calling for much of the city to be shut down to curb the spread of the virus.

On Sunday, the mayor was shown a graph depicting the sharp upward trajectory of the coronavirus epidemic curve, and another showing the capacity of the city’s health systems to handle the influx.

Journalists Forget Their Own Predictions: Millions of Americans to Die
Jeffrey Lord

May 30th, 2020 11:00 AM

From The New York Times on March 13: “As many as 200,000 to 1.7 million people could die.”

From The New York Times on March 16: “Sweeping new federal recommendations announced on Monday for Americans to sharply limit their activities appeared to draw on a dire scientific report warning that, without action by the government and individuals to slow the spread of coronavirus and suppress new cases, 2.2 million people in the United States could die.”

From The Washington Post, March 19: “In the worst-case scenario, America is on a trajectory toward 1.1 million deaths.”

From MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell, March 24: If Americans go to Easter services: “If that happened on Easter Sunday, just 19 days from now, then in May, you’d have millions of dead people all over the country. Millions,” O’Donnell said on his MSNBC show. “If you have packed churches all over the country, including California, on Easter Sunday, by May there could be a million dead people in California.”

From Andrew Slavitt, Barack Obama’s former acting administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS): “Currently experts expect over one million deaths in the U.S. since the virus was not contained & we cannot even test for it.”

From infectious disease specialist Michael Osterholm to podcaster Joe Rogan the week of March 12: “We conservatively estimate that this could require 48 million hospitalizations, 96 million cases actually occurring, over 480,000 deaths that can occur over the next three to seven months…”

From CNN: “On State of the Union, Dr. Anthony Fauci tells Brianna Keilar that in a worst-case scenario millions of people in the US could die from the coronavirus.”

From Yahoo: "At the low end of the projection this would mean about 700,000 deaths. At the high end it would mean 1.5 million deaths.”

In other words? By this point, there were estimates aplenty in the media that there would be anywhere from almost a half million to 1.5 million to 2.2 million dead Americans. But mysteriously in all the stories about the 100,000 dead Americans there is no mention - zero - of earlier media predictions that there would be ten or twenty times that number of deaths.

Gov. Cuomo can’t dodge accountability for nursing home deaths forever
By Steve Scalise
June 24, 2020 | 2:30pm | Updated
[...]
The novel-coronavirus death toll in New York’s nursing homes is tragic. More than 6,000 American seniors died of COVID-19 in nursing homes and long-term-care facilities across the Empire State, yet grieving families have no answers for how this happened or who is responsible.

As of 7/17/2020, New York is a lot better than the rest of the country today? Really?

tell the true now... this where the spin stops

Tell the truth? The truth is...Cuomo put sick elderly back into nursing homes. The truth is...that policy killed thousands of elderly New Yorkers! The truth is...Cuomo has been trying to spin this since it happened to pass the blame to someone other than himself!

The reason that ICU beds are "full" is that hospitals are using their ICU units to isolate Covid 19 patients regardless of the severity of their illness! The severity of the virus cases...the numbers of people on ventilators...has gone down as the average age has gone down.

Can you ever talk about the issue?
i do it all the time and you know this. i take things far deeper than most and work my ass off to be fair to both sides when a logical (not emotional) argument is presented. while we've not always agreed, we have in fact agreed on many issues.

but i have always maintained your biggest issue is trump. most all of our discussions go back to your hate for trump. when i say "wow you sure to rag on trump a lot" you get very defensive and go back on the attack as if you don't rag on trump a lot.

simple fact is, you do. now - this issue is about desantis and COVID media coverage. i have provided % of ICU beds open in Florida, stats from people i know in the health care field in that state, and have gone after the topic of this thread OF WHICH trump was not a part of it.

til you decided you needed to show us yet again you don't like him.

so - in this very thread i have stuck to the issue and discussed IT. not trump.

care to try and come at me with truth, not vague perception? and i ask again - can you ever talk about an issue without your raging on trump.

We have 50 hospitals at or near capacity. We have 349 hospitals.
and if i read the data right yesterday, the ones at capacity are pretty small to begin with.

FULL HOSPITAL is dangerous
EIGHT BEDS FULL!!!! isn't.

they know how to say things for max emo value and they milk that tit dry.

Let's be honest here. Hospitals make money from having Covid patients in ICU. So are the patients being put in ICU beds because they really need to be there...or is this simply a good way for hospitals to make more money?

if i'm being honest, i have no idea. i can only go by the #'s being presented. talking to the motivation of the people putting them there is where things tend to get royally fucked.

given that i have no idea of the motivations behind it - i simply go by an 8 bed hospital won't take much to fill as an 80 bed ICU unit.

when we start assuming the motivations of someone else, we are now stereotyping people and putting our words, thoughts and actions into their responsibility and again - i just see this as a core of our issues. given we're all on the edge anyway and have so little patience anymore, it's very understandable just as much as it is unfortunate.
