did david gregory break the law on meet the press holding up that magazine

David Gregory Actually Did Have Permission To Use Magazine Clip As Prop, Report Says

The permission evidently came from a D.C. police official who informed the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

...Our sources say the D.C. police official informed ATF David could legally show the magazine, provided it was empty. An ATF official then called the staffer from “Meet the Press” to inform them they could use the magazine.

Oh well, there goes that. You still have Piers Morgan to deport. :lmao:
I don't buy it, because the Metro PD knows it is illegal to be in possession of the magazine.

Metro PD is still investigating. This is not ATF's jurisdiction at this time.

Why no names? Staffer...unnamed. Police official...unnamed. ATF agents...unnamed.

Why didn't NBC come out with this from day one? TMZ has to release information FOR NBC? lol

Well let's see... this "story" came out on the weekend, Monday was December 24th and yesterday was December 25th. I can't imagine why they wouldn't have had a full staff at work on December 24th and 25th, can you? I'm stumped. :bang3:
NBC shut down on Christmas?

Who knew.....

Pretty much, yeah. Except for on-air talent (half of them subs) and a skeleton crew of engineers running archived stuff, but the kind of office bureacrats needed to answer stupid questions like this would have been off on ... what's the holiday... Easter? Whatever December 25 is. I think Bob Cratchit would know.

TM is a fucking lair hack

aaaaannnd CUE to Denialists. Having lost the fantasy gag story. How predictable.

Gregory looked like a libtard spineless socialist, again. Idiot lefties.

OK, you guys wanna go with Denialism or Ad Hominem here? Pick a fallacy. Some of y'all are as disorganized as Democrats.

"NBC contacted [the Metropolitan Police Department] inquiring if they could utilize a high capacity magazine for their segment. NBC was informed that possession of a high capacity magazine is not permissible and their request was denied. This matter is currently being investigated," police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump said in a written statement. She declined to comment further on the investigation.

DC police investigating 'Meet the Press' incident

Hmmm...from MSNBC no less. POGO FAIL!

Damn, you're a moron.

NBC itself says they were denied permission by the Metro PD to use the magazine.

:lmao:

Stupid fucks abound on this board.

Notwithstanding the alleged holiday (which of course NBC officers have to immediately drop in order to answer stupid shit like this), it's also possible they let this thing ride for two days just so that silly threads like this could make fools of themselves. If I were NBC that's what I'd do, but that's just me.

I don’t know if NBC’s David Gregory violated the law or not by showing what appeared to be a 30 round magazine during Meet the Press last Sunday….but is it really worth the time to investigate him? How much time and money is going to be spent (wasted) investigating him? Can you think of a sillier use of investigative resources?

I will bet my right arm David Gregory is not going to go out and commit some crime with that magazine…or that he intended to flaunt the law (if it was against the law.) At worst, it was a stupid TV stunt (and so what!) And yes, we are all capable of stupid TV stunts!

... We have so many serious issues of violence in this country — and even here in DC on our dangerous streets — that it is bizarre to me that anyone would spend (waste) 5 minutes investigating NBC’s David Gregory for this.

This is not about whether you like David Gregory or not…whether you agree with him or not…whether you like his show or not…..this is about the exercise good police judgment

hope they throw the book at spineless Dave. he will be crying in the first 10 minutes in the can. Hope the brothers give him a good reaming out

So, you don't want to enforce gun control laws.

The liberal elite, politicians and illegal aleins are above the law. only the lower class hard working American taxpayers have to obey our laws.

This has created an uproar, with gun rights advocates calling for Mr. Gregory's indictment, if not yet the death penalty, and police acknowledging their probe.

How perfect can you get? Mr. Gregory interrogates Mr. LaPierre on the subject of whether to ban a magazine that it is illegal for Mr. Gregory to display but apparently easy enough to acquire in time for a Sunday morning broadcast. So here we have a possible indictment that would be entirely nonsensical of a journalist who was trying to embarrass an NRA official over an ammunition ban whose impact would be entirely symbolic.

Not sure if you're addressing me or Greta but since she's not here, I've never posted a word about gun control. I post about the First Amendment, media, logic and hypocrisy.
And for that, times like this and especially threads like this are a godsend.

Speaking of the latter...
It took the a couple days to manufacture the back story, now they're looking for faces to take the parts...
TM [sic] is a fucking lair hack
(I guess that's transcendental meditation?)
hope they throw the book at spineless Dave. he will be crying in the first 10 minutes in the can. Hope the brothers give him a good reaming out

-- I can't help but notice when some hair-on-fire blog comes out with this idea, David Gregory is guilty until proven innocent, but yet when another report says it was above board, David Gregory is guilty until proven innocent.

Kind of reminds me of a certain birth certificate.

You're not sure if I'm addressing you or Greta?

Are you on something?

Do you or do you (that's YOU, not Greta somebody, or anyone else) not want to enforce gun control laws?

Since I posted Greta VanSusteren's words, which you can kind of tell because they're followed by an em dash and the words "Greta VanSustern", and you then addressed that post, quoted, in the second person, it sure looked like you were trying to address Greta. I'm not sure if you actually grasp that that's me quoting her, not her actually posting.

So I can't speak for her, but I can repeat what I just posted that flew over the cuckoo's nest: I haven't opined about gun control, laws or otherwise, except to the extent of noting that such laws, new or existing, would not be enough to address gun violence by themselves. That's it.

Laws are enforced of course, but that's a given. Otherwise what's the point of having laws?
Capiche?

It's a simple yes or no question: Do you or do you not want to enforce gun control laws?

I called it.

I would bet money that:

  • NBC contacted the DC PD and/or the local Federal Agency
  • NBC asked them to please supply a magazine for a segment on 'Meet The Press'
  • LE, as a public agency, was happy to help
  • Officer delivers, supervises, and controls possession of the magazine.

In case you didn't notice, the Metro PD has specifically said they did NOT grant permission to NBC.

And, they are still investigating why NBC was in possession of something they specifically told them they did not have permission to be in possession of.
