Do Americans do history at school?

Serious question, do Americans do history at school? Is it on your curriculum? Knowledge from Americans on world history is just so poor on forums, or do forums just attract the user that has little to no history knowledge?

If you do do history at school, what did you cover?
The kids studied Texas history, US history, and world history.

World history was fertile crescent, Egypt/Rome, the world wars and Cold War mostly.
US History started with natives, New Spain / Louisiana, and the Colonies. It included the Civil War WWII, civil rights.
Texas History started with New Spain, the TexMex Wars, the admission of the other states into Greater Texas, and some stuff after that I don't remember.

Elementary Catechism Of The Constitution used to be a standard issued textbook for elementary school children.

But gone are the days...
As a gradeschooler I had to learn the basics of our government structure via the constitution and had to be able to write a brief description of the basic premise of each of the Bill of Rights. I don't know if I could do that without looking them up now--I haven't tried--but in elementary school I could.
