The original is by Simon & Garfunkel (my sister went to the same HS with them, Forest Hills HS in Queens) , And it is about acknowledging the despair and apocalyptic people on the subway floor.
I'm glad you liked it. It is a dark, somber more heavy metal interpretation of S&G's folksy version. I think it's a song about several things happening in a dream. The main being inability to communicate. An inability to communicate about so many things, and this leads us to not being able to live peacefully together. I think it could cover everything really.
