I’ve posted this story before but me and my son were accosted in California on July 4th two years back because he was wearing an American flag. A group of Mexicans accused us of wearing Trump gear and said they had been seeing it all day (4th of July as I said) and they were fed up with “Trump flags”.

I’m not a gear guy whether political or sports team related, etc. But I’ve seen several folks sporting MAGA hats at the marina where we slip our boat.

Wasn’t there the day this scene played out but a few of our slip neighbors filled me in. One guy, which I have witnessed, has made derogatory remarks to folks around the marina he’s seen wearing them and he’s quite snarky/nasty with his words about Trump. All in all just a first class a-hole.

Well one quite windy day he’s attempting to slip his boat, which can be a tricky maneuver if the wind’s from the wrong direction. The hull acts as a sail catching the wind and the boat gets pushed in the direction its blowing, bad news in this guy’s case as his slip is at the end of a row with just two pilings between it and the concrete retaining wall the wind was pushing him towards. Take it from someone with firsthand knowledge, concrete and boat hulls should never meet one another.

In the boating community at any marina when boaters see a fellow boater having such a problem folks will come running to help out. Lines would be tossed to them and they’d pull to counteract the wind’s action and help get the boat safely in the slip. This day though no cavalry came to the rescue even though, I was told, there were plenty of people around.

The guy managed to get it in without kissing the wall but has been a different person ever since. Now he just walks around avoiding eye contact with others and not another peep about anyone’s MAGA hat that I’ve heard about anyway. Hopefully the guy’s filed it under actions have consequences and learned a lesson about respecting other peoples’ views or whatever.
