Except the private colleges are just as slanted with their own echo chamber classrooms and professors who will brook no dissent. Try debating a biology professor about why evolution is factual on the campus of Pensacola Christian College and see what happens to your grade.

The long and the short of it is that this ideal campus of higher learner where ideas are freely discussed anywhere at any time and where every professor is willing to be called out on their views just doesn't exist, never have, and never will. There are plenty of professors that want that and treat their classrooms like that, but there are also plenty of professors that don't accept any thought or view other than their own as correct. Plenty of departments practice groupthink and any deviation means no tenure and planet of universities gladly establish those kinds of departments (normally with the work Studies in the department name) because of the grant money it brings in. It is politically costly for universities to crack down on things like Departments of Women's Studies and Department of African American Studies, so they don't.

It's ugly, but it's also the world we live in.
