Later he openly suggested that our Constitution and laws might have to be “terminated” to keep himself in power. He might have succeeded in organizing a coup had his own v.p. and some top military officers gone along with him. This might have launched a catastrophic civil war, fatally dividing our nation, leaving us to end up like other poor, week “Banana Republics.”
