Another positive effect of the vaccine is that those vaccinated that catch the flu, tend to have milder symptoms and recover faster.

Do you think more lives might be / have been saved if millions of americans were not living sans healthcare coverage? We as a society prioritized the funding of endless wars of aggression and the funding of a militarist empire over leaving the nation exposed to any emerging retroviral pandemic that might arise.
