Everyone making less then 25,000 per year

Everyone making less then 25,000 per year should get $300 per month in food stamps and be allowed to take skill based classes at their local community college backed by the tax payers. Skill based is computer, business, or any classes that help them get a better job to boost their income upwards.

This is the right thing to do....

Time to start helping people instead of hurting them.

How about we give them 12 years of free education....oh...that's right...we already do......the problem...the government schools, controlled by the education wing of the democrat party, isn't educating our kids.......how about we give the parent's of those kids a voucher for the full amount of that free education each year...and they can send their kids to schools that actually educate them.......that would solve most of that problem.

A high school education today will get you a job making... $10 an hour. Congrats on a failed argument.

Moron.....if they actually educated kids, they could get into college and succeed.......they could also send their kids to trade schools if they wanted............or apprenticeships........and then we can tackle the price inflation at the college level because of government interference....

And if Trump has his way kids no longer are able to get government grants and loans... so more kids are either in debt for the next 10+ years or they can't go to college because their parents don't have good enough credit to get the loans.

The mental melt down of mental midgets over Trump is just old......the reason college is so expensive is because the government took over the loan process...and the colleges hiked the prices to go along with the gauranteed increase in loans.....

Slaving kids out to student loan debt that's brilliant lib. /sarcasm

Lower tuition...oh wait colleges and universities are Dem campaign contributors, is that why you sit there with your thumbs up your ass while they charge kids $150k for a worthless diploma?

Lower tuition won't matter if people can't get approved for loans. What part of that don't you understand?

No twit.....it is the government loan garuantees that gave the green light to the universities to increase their prices way above the cost of inflation...........

The problem isn't the cost of college ....it is the parent who decided to have children, as a single parent...while only making minimum wage......that is the problem......address that.

You don't want poor single people to have kids? Then don't defund Planned Parenthood... oh wait...

Or are you talking about forced contraception? Starting to sound like Russia to me...

Goddamn whatever happened to working your way through college, you know getting a job. Or parents working a job and saving up for their kids college. When did it become my goddamn responsibility to work overtime and have to work until I'm 70 years old to retire because I had to pay to put other peoples kids through college?

If you choose to have kids they are YOUR financial responsibility not mine. If you come begging me for a tuition hand out you had better be working 2 jobs and trying to make it on your own first.

I can agree with the OP, with one caveat. If you take this deal, you have a 5 year limit for food stamps and educational assistance.

And as for what sort of classes, skip the computer or business classes. The chances of that helping them is slim to none.

Give them training in a trade. Teach them skills such as plumbing, welding, laying brick, splicing fiber optics, or any one of a dozen vocational training classes that will give them a real job and a future.

I can agree with you with one caveat. If you think this is such a good idea, YOU pay for it. If the costs were placed on those that think it's a good idea, we'd see just how much they actually care.

I'm proving an education for MY children. If some kid's parents won't provide their own with an education, it damn sure isn't my place to do it regardless of the caveats. If those parents don't think their own child is a good enough investment, I sure don't.

We will all pay for it now or pay for it later. This way gives us productive citizens with actual skills.

Sure it does. It gives us another generation of freeloaders that will continue to demand something be given to them. You don't create productive citizens by handing them something they aren't willing to provide themselves.

I have a solution for the pay later. If someone chooses to be a drain on society or not do for themselves, don't provide them an out. Let them suffer the consequences. I'm willing to do so but it seems you aren't. You're willing to enable them to be freeloaders.

No, what you are willing to do is spend more on prisons. It's cheaper to pay for a trade. Hell, bring back trade schools in high schools.

The school district where I live does a version of that. There are Career Centers where those wanting to learn the basics of a trade, much like what you suggested, can take classes learning to do that. They offer Construction Technology, Cosmetology, Welding, Automotive Repair, and other similar type programs. Recently, programs in Firefighting have been added. When students come out of them, while they aren't going to be the boss, they have a very good start toward a trade based career. In fact, the daughter of a friend of mine did that very thing. When she graduated high school, having gone to one of those Centers, she had her certification in cosmetology from the State. She went on to college to get a business degree. Having recently graduated, she now has her own hair salon and doing well.

Why do you assume not paying now will produce more criminals? We've paid and paid and paid yet we still have criminals.

Anytime you have a capitalist system there will ALWAYS be those at the bottom of the triangle. Those at the top need to quit being assholes and realize that unless they do something to protect those at the bottom, they will disappear and then guess what... those at the middle will be at the bottom... and when those are gone... the next ones will be at the bottom... and so on.

The rich will be limited to gated communities within the next 100 years if the extreme conservatives ever get their way. They'll have to pay for their own roads, water infrastructure and schools as the rest of society will look like Haiti.

The rich won't be as rich either as there won't be the kind of demand a well paid population has to buy their stuff.

The rich are fucking themselves...Limiting themselves and being really stupid.

You mean like the fenced/gated residence Obama will be living in after next Friday?

Those earning a living and contributing to society already are the ones paying for the roads, water, and schools. Do you think the pittance the poor put into the pot, if any at all, actually makes a difference?

it has called "shop" in junior and high school

It's time people start helping themselves instead of demanding all their miserable lives that someone else do it for them.

Gee, I thought going to school and taking classes is helping yourself.

You'd teach someone to swim by tying rocks around their legs and throwing them overboard.

Going to school and taking classes is helping yourself. Paying for it yourself fits into that, too. The OP wants someone other that the person going or the parent(s) of that person going to fund it.

The outlook of the OP, and apparently you, is like the food stamp nonsense. You think someone using food stamps is actually providing for themselves when the only way they can do it is because someone else funds it.

No you moron. You teach someone to swim by getting them in the shallow end at a low wage because they aren't olympic swimmers yet. Then you teach them to put their face in the water and blow bubbles and give them a raise for that. Then you teach them to float, and they get a raise. Some will continue on to learn how to breastroke or butterfly and one or two will be world class and get paid accordingly. You want us all to finance everyone until they can win the 100 meter.

No you idiot. I want you to give them swimming lessons, not tell them to do it all themselves. If they could do that without assistance, they would already have done it.

That's the problem. You want people that, in no way, have an association with the one getting something to fund it while those that are associated with them to get a pass in doing that. If a kid's parents aren't willing to do for them when it comes to higher education, that kids isn't a good investment for me. When it comes to providing anything to a kid, it's their parent(s) responsibility not mine.

What you aren't able to comprehend is the only way your scenario can happen is with socialism. Only in socialism does a person born into poverty remain there forever. In capitalism a person born poor can become middle class or even one of the hated 1%. As a bonus only under capitalism can a 1%er fall to the very bottom. During capitalism or socialism there will always be those at the bottom. Only one of those systems gives you the opportunity to escape that position. The other one ensures you will never get out of it.

A person in the bottom ten percent has a one in five hundred chance of making it to the top one percent. Someone in the top one percent has a one out of six chance of falling below the highest ten percent.

Not to mention, those in the top 1% are worth more than the other 99% combined. That's a problem.

Not unless the money earned was done illegally. Let's put it in easy to understand amounts. If I have $99 because I earned it doing something valuable and involving an effort but you only have $1 because you sat on your ass expecting someone else to give you something, there's nothing wrong with that.

Not necessarily. That might be the case for those lazying their way through school. The daughter of a friend of mine went to what we call a Career Center in out school district. It's a trade based school that student wanting to learn a trade can go during the day instead of taking useless electives at their base school. This friend's daughter, when finishing high school, has a certification in cosmetology. She went to college and earned a business degree. Now she owns her own salon. By the way, had she not gone to college, she still would have earned more than $10/hour with just the certificate.

You should have thought of that with the H1B visas, huh? Now, you give a damn. How funny.
