Freedom of Religious Opinion? Not If You're Phil Robertson

I support his free speech.
What amazes me is the support for his beliefs as he has a long history of preaching that women should know their place behind a man.

Geez, talk about spin. I was asking seabitch if she realized that a minority could oppress a majority and gave some examples where that has happened.

Then you lefties try to flip it around and claim that I support oppression of minorities.

You people are sick.

The Civil Rights Act is government enforced tolerance and acceptance.

No it isn't. No law forces anyone to accept or tolerate anyone.

You get the point.

I was responding to the comment about homosexuality.

Okay, but that's not happening either Captain Hyperbole.

When the government overrules the will of the people, that is oppression of the majority.

Fishy believes Loving was "oppression of the majority"

It isn't.

But I think we've found someone who is against the Civil Rights Act.

mandating equal rights is not forcing tolerance and acceptance. You want the government to mandate how people feel and what they believe. You libs are Orwellian.

The answer to your vapid, intellectually vacuous, and desperate post is an easy

"Then why do you keep doing it?"

Keep doing what?

Who have I "punished for saying what they are thinking"? Who have I "intimidated into not saying what they are thinking"?

Be specific and cite it.

Yeah, A&E's suspension of Phil Robertson is my prime example. The IRS audition of many Tea Party groups in 2012, the raids of the AP offices, the "investigation" of James Rosen, the instances where people are called racist for disagreeing with the president are distinct others.

Citations? Check. Specificity? Check.

Audition? Interesting term in this case.

They're all sins, that's what the bible says.

Too bad for the extremist homo bloc. America agrees.

An, the Bible says this and that.
Do not eat shrimp, oysters and catfish and a bunch of other silly crap you do not call sin.
Yet you point to something Jesus never claimed was a sin.
Because you also hater gays. Just go ahead and admit it.

No, I don't. What a ridiculous thing to say.

What about A&E's rights to run their business as they see fit?

That dumb hick or southern rural retardedness has no rights to be on A&E.

A&E was completely within their rights as a network to terminate him.

The question is not whether it was legal. That was never the issue.

Okay, you liberals and gays think Christians are oppressive to Homosexuals, let me demonstrate how wrong you are.

LGBT Rights and the UN:

Green (Support): Countries which have signed an LGBT rights Declaration in the General Assembly, sponsored the 2011 LGBT rights resolution in the UNHRC, or both (94 member-states)

Red (Oppose): Countries which had signed a statement opposing LGBT rights in 2008; initially 57, but 3 countries switched to supporting LGBT rights (54 member-states)

Gray (Neither): Countries which have not officially opposed or supported LGBT rights in the UN (46 member-states)

Now, overlay those countries with the predominant religion present in their region.

According to what I have presented, what religion is intolerant of homosexuals? You decide.

Thats what you don't get. Having religious beliefs and expressing them is not bigotry. Bigotry is punishing someone for expressing beliefs different from yours.

Robertson does not want to punish anyone, he will let God be the judge.

But bigots like you think that you have the RIGHT to punish anyone who dares disagree with your Godless, statist, socialistic view of life.

People used the bible to justify slavery, segregation and anti miscegenation laws. Were they bigots or not?

Agreed upon by the duly elected representatives of the people. Are you suggesting that Jim Crow and separate water fountains were good ideas?

Sure they were, but not because they misquoted the Bible. Are you now trying to claim that the Bible and Christianity are bigoted?

The amazing thing about that graph is that it was still a 50/50 split in the 90's.

That's crazy to me but twenty years from now it will be the same way to people my age regarding homosexuality.

Interracial relationships was never really an issue amongst my generation like homosexuality isn't really much of an issue amongst our kids.

It's an issue. It's a legitimate issue in the debate.

But there are other issues too in this whole story. Namely, an entire generation, region and sub-culture that has to stfu about gay people and get over the fact that their preferred policies of bigotry, bullying and hatred toward homosexuals are OVER.

Now religious conservatives will be the bullied ones, and they have no one to blame but themselves.

Now, you are relegating people of faith to the shadows, dubbing them as the social outcasts; doing the exact same thing you've accused us of doing.

Now, it is you who must defend your intolerance and bigotry, not us.

I kind of like that. Enjoy the spotlight.

Keep up the persecution, and that will be "Christian soldiers," and civil war to reinstate this as a Christian Nation if we have to, sweetie. ;)

When? Lets set a date!

The African nation of Uganda (a predominantly Christian nation), just this week passed anti-homosexuality laws that would condemn same-sex couples to life in jail for mere touching.

of course not, why can't you lefties stay on topic. We are talking about government thought control and punishment for what you are thinking or what you believe.

the stupid hate crime legislation is a perfect example---------its somehow worse if I kill you because you are a different race, than if I kill you to steal your money. Either way you are dead and I am a murderer---------but I am to get a more severe punishment because of what I was THINKING.

Do you reallly support government thought control?

Point taken. The Civil Rights Act isn't government enforced tolerance and acceptance in the sense that it will compel you to "feel" or "believe" something.
