The Gingrich led congress.further divided congress and implemented the GOP "us against them" mentality. And further ideological blood battles only stopped briefly for 9/11, then it started again and has escalated ever since. We have had dysfunctional government ever since.
Now we have the divider in Chief, who has no respect for our government, it's institutions and for those who disagree with him.
George H W Bush wasn't perfect, but comparing him to those who have followed him, he looks mighty good and it's not even close.
The country respected him, the world respected him and the world respected the United States. None of this is happening now, it's a polar opposite environment. Sad.
