Government School Nightmare Watch: 2,400 NC Elementary School Teachers Flunk Math Exams...

Why are they even grading the tests? You grade and inevitably you’re gonna have some failures and think how those teachers will FEEL when everyone knows they flunked! Just give them all a participation trouphy when they hand in their completed tests and be done with it.

Depends on the tests.................Many times they test at College level mathematics when they are teaching simple math...................In this case it was elementary school teachers..............Hardly a day to day dive into derivatives...........and Triple Integrals.........................

Have sisters who teach.............and back when they took tests they would have to study for the tests to remind them of some of the math that they simply haven't used in quite some time...............Even though teaching at a much lower level.........

Without seeing the tests......................who da hell knows........is there a copy.

Did it occur to you folks that it might actually be the test since at least 2 other states are having the same problem?

Yes, that 2+2 thing can be confusing and tricky.
I'm sure that's the level of math that was on the test.

OK then, what's 10 to the second power?
You mean 100?

Yeah!!! Here's your teachers certificate.

Not interested, thank you. Have my own business.

You think there were triple integrals on the test?

The exam probably had questions like these:

I wonder how many teachers in other states can't pass the exams for basic skills such as math, english, history, and sciences?

Been a long time but I remember in school that our teachers required us to show our work and how to find that answer using X...................LOL

2x = 10
x=5
3x=?
3(5)=15

It's 10 minutes per board regardless of the board's length.

...Most of the 'Teachers' care much more about brainwashing the children on their political agendas, than actually educating them. .....

Bullshit.
You'll have to excuse Dshrute...he only says what he's been told to say....if he'd actually paid attention, he would have noticed that NC teachers are in a Red state and it's a right to work state.

You'll have to excuse bodecea...he only says what he's been told to say....if he'd actually paid attention, he would have noticed that NC teachers have a teacher's union called the NCAE and is basically exempt from right to work laws.

It really is time for parents to consider all other education alternatives for their children. Government-schooling is failing. And it's only gonna get worse.

A quick warning on the article: The teachers attempt to blame the test, rather than take responsibility. Pretty much sums up how far Government-schooling has fallen.

Almost 2,400 North Carolina elementary school teachers have failed the math portion of their licensing exams, which puts their careers in jeopardy, since the state hired Pearson publishing company to give the exam in 2013, according to a report presented to the state Board of Education Wednesday.

Failure rates have spiked as schools around the state struggle to find teachers for the youngest children. Education officials are now echoing what frustrated teachers have been saying: The problem may lie with the exams rather than the educators.

The Board of Education, which last month granted beginning teachers an extra year to pass, plans to review the Pearson exams to see if the tests are actually measuring skills needed to teach elementary students effectively, or whether they’re gauging math that’s generally taught in higher grades.

Who could have guessed Ratt predicted this when they sang Round and Round. Idiocracy incoming.

Yeah, blaming the test really does say it all about the dismal state of Government-schooling. Are these the kinds of people we want 'teaching' our kids?

That would depend on what they are teaching. I don’t give two shits if an elementary school English or special education teacher struggles with high school math

Sorry Einstein, that would be 10 minutes/cut.

I know what right to work is. The NCAE is basically a union they do everything, but collectively bargain.

No. Higher competency in a given academic discipline is essential, in my opinion, to understanding the process of effectively teaching at any level of instruction.

I agree 100 percent. However there is a point at which further competency serves no purpose. Now, whether or not the test in question has hit that threshold remains to be seen

Assuming we’re cross cutting the board and not ripping two boards of different lengths.
