Harry reid ready to rush through internet sales tax; obama endorses

I think to be fair every retailer in the country should be required to verify the person's residence for each sale and remit the proper sales tax.

I.E. if you are visiting NH from Mass, you have to show proper ID in order to buy anything and the store has to collect the proper Mass sales tax for the resident address.
Conversely if a NH resident is visiting NYC, no tax would be collected.

Proper ID required for all sales of anything that's taxed in the state you have declared as your residence.

Some states don't tax food and or clothing, others do.

Wait, is this an additional internet sales tax? Starting 1/2013 I have to pay sales tax in my state.

This is what happens when the fascists won't tax the wealthy.

This is what happens when you give socialists too much power.

No. This is what happens when you make the penalty for not taxing the super wealthy acceptable. This country has absorbed the Sequestration without batting an eye. It wasn't harsh enough.

The "super wealthy" don't owe you anything. Why do you think they do?

If we'd cut down the behemoth size of government there would be considerably less robbery by the state.

A D or an R after a politician's name is not a reliable indicator for whether or not they support an internet sales tax. Some Republicans favor it, some Democrats oppose it.

It's all about money for the states, and cash trumps party. Every time.

Devils Advocate here but consider this will you....

I lose about 50% of plumbing hardware sales to the internet. On an average job that would total about 2k. And thats just me. One small business.

Imagine if the internet had to compete on a level playing field. Imagine the possible boom to local retailers if their competition on the internet didn't get an automatic leg up.

Says someone who has never owned a business.

Why should I have to keep records, file forms and remit taxes to every fucking state in the union without being compensated for my time?

The people of this country need to be reminded that government does not have a right to an income.

Yet another job-killing, business-killing, bullshit piece of legislation brought to you by the current regime.
You don't have a clue what you're talking about.

Internet business have an unfair advantage, especially on large purchases. Just ask Guitar Center. Someone buying a $3,000 mixing board that they have already researched and know that they want is faced with a choice of paying an extra $210 to buy it locally (based on a 7% sales tax).

Only those totally skittish about buying online would take that choice. So that ends up costing your community - schools/fire/police/roads, etc. - and only enriches the Jeff Bezos of the world.

How much is shipping?
Free.

they did tax the wealthy pond scum, where the fuck were you? under a rock?
The wealthy pond scum can start paying their fair share.

Fair is subjective, you progressive moron... And you and your ilk like using that term because it opens up the door for unequal treatment by government because it makes you feel good to tax someone ELSE more and you less...
If that person is making millions per year, they should be paying more than me, and at a higher rate.
