No tommy, the defense doesn't have to do anything, the State has to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant is guilty.

And the Prosecution did that with ease, the evidence and testimony all added up.

The Defense then has an opportunity to counter the prosecution evidence, if they wish to, so to counter any of the evidence against them.

The Defense team CHOSE not to offer any counter evidence to counter the prosecution's evidence and chose to just keep repeating that Cohen is a liar, liar of all liars, blah blah blah....

The jury didn't trust Trump's lawyer telling them Cohen is just a liar, because the defense lawyer's opening statement that Trump never slept with Stormy Daniels, was proven in the trial, to be an outright LIE.
