By not separating into 2 separate countries (one blue, the other red), and trusting the Democrats to be civil, this has been shown to be a huge mistake. Look at the results of keeping the Democrats as part of the same country as Republicans.

As the OP title says it was advocated 8 years ago. So no, now is not the time, that's correct . It should hav been done years ago, and then all the dirty things that have happened, would only have happened in the blue America, not in th red one.

There is a very good chance that in 2025, Republicans will have the presidency, the Supreme Court, and both houses of congress. If that is the cse, they need to break up the country into 2 separate countries, one red, one blue. To let that opportunity go by, would be madness.
