If State Legislators/Governor Won't Enact Rent Control, Vote Them Out

And a socialist. Imagine that!
So what ? in case you hadn't noted, the USA is not a purely capitalist country. It is a combination of capitalism and socialism where needed. And nowhere is the socialism part more needed than in housing

1. $96/month is not a "modest" increase.
2. There is a huge difference between a necessity commodity and a non-necessity. With non-necessities, the firm cannot pass on expenses to the buyer, because the buyer will STOP BUYING, and the seller loses money by sales reduction. With necessities, landlords take buyers for granted knowing they NEED the item (in this case housing)
3. Renters may have no skin in the ownership game, but they have their whole lives in the renting game of their housing (#1 element of human survival), which the owners have no skin in that.
4. As for the real costs involved AGAIN >> " If business owners cannot handle the costs associated with running their business, then stay out of that business. Don't be dumping costs on to the customers, especially for a commodity that people HAVE TO HAVE.
5. I'm sick & disgusted of listening to landlords in this thread. How about some renters showing up here, and SPEAK UP.
1) Economics doesn't care if anyone "needs" anything, any more than a hurricane does.

2) Your line about business owners not being able to handle increase costs is the exact sentiment of Hildabeest saying; "I can't be responsible for every undercapitalized business", when it was noted that her idiotic nationalized medical care program would drive businesses out of business.

3) Not every rental property owner is on the same point in the path of their business model.

4) Rent control always -yes ALWAYS- ends up with a net loss of available rental properties...In many cases, the units are left empty when the current leases expire, because the holding costs of an empty space are cheaper than renting to someone who will trash the place, which happens when lower rent tenants move in....You end up with empty apartment houses.

I'm not surprised. Most republicans are socialists. They just won't admit it. Props for the honesty.

Government teat for the win! It's the Republican way.
VA is a cost of employment. Social Security was a forced program on employees that was promised, by the gubmint to be repaid.

Not quite the same thing as you present. 🤦‍♂️

You really expect landlords to just eat the costs of tax and utility hikes?
LOL. Maybe I really WILL have to say this 100 times >> "If business owners cannot handle the costs associated with running their business, then stay out of that business. Don't be dumping costs on to the customers, especially for a commodity that people HAVE TO HAVE."

Neither is the OP.

Open an apartment complex then. It must be really really easy, right?

True. Most Republicans recognize that in order for a society to function at its most efficient and benefit to everyone, it needs to be both capitalist and socialist.

Healthcare?
No problem. Join the military. Last week I had surgery (courtesy of the VA) and was hospitalized for 3 days. I have 5 holes on my stomach + a line of 10 stitches. Am recovering with home heath aids visiting me. haven't paid a dime.

Most Americans can do this. Serve your country - everybody ought to anyway.

Hell back when I was renting my first home and was in-tune with other landlords they would have people move out due to a $10.00 increase in rent as there were plenty of rentals available back then.

Hell, I did not increase rent for one tenant for five years because he was a good renter and I wanted to keep him in there. He did much of the upkeep himself and I just took it (materials and a bit of labor) off his rent. It was a win for us both.

But here's today's situation.....There are hardly any rentals available in my AO and if you have to upkeep a place it's expensive as fuck.

Bottom line.....Pay-up or move on....Your choice as it will be rented again before your shit is out the door.

Biggest pile of crap I've seen in years in this forum.

See Post # 19. No charge for the tutoring.

You stayed in Florida? We warned you what was coming.

You need to find a way to a cheaper place and probably a camper. As they are about all thats left somewhat cheap anymore.

I don't now what you're talking about, and it's just as well.
