If the UK does not belong to Europe as a continent, where is it then?

Twenty miles west of Europe. Why does the UK have to belong to anything?

The British Isles are closest to Europe. It's more complicated for Iceland.

But Europe is not really a continent, as it's separated by mountains on one side. The notion was invented by the Greeks, who were unaware of the southern part of Africa and the Far East, as well as the other continents.

India was at one time surrounded by water, then it crashed into Asia and formed the Himalayas. The Urals are older, more eroded.

Brits don't consider themselves as Europeans.
