The economy of Michigan was devastated by having all of it's eggs in one basket. That basket being the auto industry. Hell even US based auto manufacturers have expanded far beyond the borders of Michigan and closed plants in the state. The fact is short sighted politicians made it incredibly expensive to do business there.
The fact that the UAW kept making life miserable for these companies did not help either. Many of the "Big Three" now the Big Two( Chrysler is no longer an American owned company but majority owned by Fiat) have built plants in right to work states and in foreign countries.
When are you going to accept the fact that you cannot win this discussion?

Guy, I was never in a union. Never said I was. My father was in a union. My brothers are in unions. I was career military and then went into the private sector. And until about five years ago, when my asshole boss showed me the true meaning of Christmas, I was about as dismissive of unions as you are.

Guy, here's the thing.

If the team had a winning record, your sad attempt at an analogy would make sense.

But it didn't. The company had to let people go because in this case, the management at the company managed to lose a 35 MILLION dollar account. Not the worker bees. We did EXACTLY what we were supposed to do. We got the product to the customer on time.

But management kept gouging the customer with a 30% markup on what we sold them, and even though the sales people told them that they were making a lot of noise about being overcharged, they refused to come down during the contract, and then acted like there was nothing wrong when the contract was being renegotiated.

And oooops. They didn't get the contract. Let's not fire the managers. Let's fire the worker bees.

I see a need for unions because people like my ex-boss become managers. Period. Not that i personally want to join one. I would also be just as happy with a government that strongly enforces labor laws.
