I'm a teacher. Here's why I am cheering my new freedom from unions

How the back does a family homeschool if the family income isn't overt 100 k (middle to lower middle class). Employers are cheap.

The Department of Education is a complete failure. A waste of money. It's unconstitutional. And it's a detriment to the quality of education in America.

Abolish it.

No disrespect intended toward you're mother, op.

How does the Education Department (it's real name BTW) have any impact on the quality of education in your schools?

It has sucked 3+ Trillion dollars form the economy over the last 30+ years, ate a huge chunk of that money in administrative costs, then doled out what's left to the schools with big time strings attached. The result has been higher dropout rates and lower test scores.

.

It is so sad that you have such little grasp of why dropout rates are an indicator of anything involving educational practices.

I have a full grasp on how useless the Ed Dept has been. I'm aware there are a wide variety of reasons kids drop out, but one of the main reasons is poor teachers. I only takes one to sour a student on school. I had a lot of teachers over the years, most were very good, however I only remember the names of the bad ones almost 50 years after I graduated form high school, they were both in Jr. High. Good teachers motivate kids to show up and learn, others make you want to stay in bed.

.

You do realize that they survey dropouts as to why they left school and bad teachers are not the cause.

Yep, and the top two in this survey was they were bored or failing too many classes. Both are directly related to teaching.

The most common reasons students drop out of high school are heartbreaking

I know several people that did it just fine. A couple that's doing it today is one of my tenants. He doesn't make big money, but he supports his entire family and she is a staunch supporter of home schooling. The kids are wonderful and I am delighted to have them here. She even has monthly meetings with other home school mothers that she hosts over here. She always alerts me because about a dozen women show up.

Perhaps union's are outdated. But they did help attain better working conditions, paid vacations, sick leave, those things that are essential for workers to survive against awful employers which are numerous.

Get rid of Unions as a whole and you’ll be right back in the 1890’s again almost overnight.

Public employees should never have been permitted to unionize. Even Franklin Roosevelt realized that!

The best way for people to appreciate their freedom from having to join a union is to free them from any of those onerous "benefits" of collective bargaining.

You mean "benefits" like 2 years of pay cuts, losing the payout for unused sick time (took 4 years to get that back), losing safety bonuses, and losing the annual profit sharing payouts? I got all that, and a mountain of junk mail from a union! Thanks a fuckload, guys!

I've worked in Union shops and believe me they ain't that great if you're not a person who wants to do the bare minimum of work required.

That has nothing to do with what was posted.
Then don't respond to my fucking posts

Better idea!

Learn to stay on topic!
Fuck off

Union hacks are certainly on topic

You should know since you are one

Really? I haven't been a union member since 2005. You know me so well!

Well, except for the fact that laziness has a lot to do with both of those. Lack of attendance was probably the biggest reason students failed my class and in our state you cannot drop out until 18.

Recruiting for the Army now, I find the biggest disqualifier is that these dropouts never even bothered to get a GED.

Why didn’t she get the union to change that in the contract?

But hey, go see how awesome things aren’t union schools . Good luck having everything being decided by politics and connections .
Quit falling down the well...
Unions don’t have people’s best interests in mind… Only a handful of people at the top benefit from unions
Right...no pay raises, no health benefits, no legal protection for members......none of that really exists. :71:
Unless you belong to a union.

Their schools? Which schools did they build and operate?

Did it for 5.5 years, we always said USARC didn't invent micromanaging, but they damn sure perfected it. That was a life time ago, 82-88.

Now, we do the prospecting for you. They love having me as I did Navy recruiting and I show them what they are doing wrong.:D

The same thing happens in FL and TX, I know from family members that have been in the education system. And those are not the only places.

How does a union help with education, when they protect bad teachers? Seriously. Many districts pay for bad teachers sitting in empty rooms because they can’t fire them!
Go see how the union less charter school teachers are doing . Many leave for unionized schools . Because they get paid crap and have to suffer the whims of management.

Wait a minute....aren't you one of those social welfare demanding Socialists?

Yeah, like under your socialism their pay would be better.

Public schools are socialism . You want to get rid of that?
They do. They prefer that the next generation be as ignorant or more so than today's trumpanzees voluntarily are.

That was in NY and has more to do with bad administrators than bad teachers.

I enjoyed it, for the most part. Never had a recruit accuse me of lying, never had an investigation and only had one trainee discharge. A Cat 4 that couldn't qualify with a weapon. He was the only one that told he wish he hadn't enlisted out of more than 100.
