There is another company here, ATT and it has been here for a few years, Before that only one and in many places one has the monopoly and they keep raising the prices. My friend in Fl. pays 120 a month and she says they have more companies to chose from and she has the same as me.

I take it you do not understand the difference between necessity and luxury.
If you really do need Internet access there is access at McDonalds and other outlets. There is access at the library. Internet cafes and even some laundy facilities have Internet. Walmart offers free internet. You can walk around or sit and serf the Internet and it only costs you to walk there.
