Is It Right That American Citizens Should Have To Stand Over 5 or 6 Hours In Line Just To Vote?

I don't buy these stories. It might have happened in 1 place and they try to make it sound like voting is like this across the nation. Never seen anyone who wanted to vote have a problem doing it.

Report: More than 1600 Polling Places Have Closed Since the Supreme Court Gutted the Voting Rights Act
Most of them are in minority communities

along party lines on the supreme court., and 1700 are in TX.

What are the republican afraid of.

I sign my name on the mail in ballot and the signature is verified against the one on file

An ID is easier to fake than a signature

Or should something be done about that so that it's made as quick, easy and efficient as possible?

Those lines are on purpose. The red states don't put enough voting machines in the polling places or they put malfunctioning machines. They close voting places so there's only one or two for hundreds of thousands of people to vote.

We don't have those problems here. Even when we did vote at voting booths.

We went 100% mail in ballot in 2005 so no one ever stands in line or is ever denied their right to vote.

Registering to vote is easy and voting is easy here. It should be that way in every state.

The republicans know that they lose if everyone votes so they do everything they can to prevent democrats from voting.

It should be illegal but it's not.

If I lived in a red state I would never vote in person at voting place. I would always vote mail in ballot.

No. That is a clear indication that their either are not enough polling places, not enough hours for polls to be open, or there needs to be more early voting.

Not everyone has that amount of time to stand in line...they have to work.
The funny thing is most of the places with long lines are controlled by Democrat's.
So you know, create a problem to bitch about knowing many in the population are too stupid to realize YOU CREATED THE PROBLEM and have no intention of fixing it.

And the republicans are busy making up the voting right laws, and they are busy closing polling places.

Texas only has 1 drop off ballot in a county. Works for 10 , not working for 2 million.
Still have not read that PEW article, have you?

Your ignorance is not my problem. You're full of shit, and you don't even know it.

Another factor: Many states, including Arizona and Texas, two states subject to preclearance restrictions before Shelby, have allowed counties to adopt regional vote centers, a change that means voters in the jurisdiction can vote at any location, not just at a single assigned polling place. Proponents say that even though jurisdictions using vote centers offer fewer locations for voting, vote centers actually give voters more options. Seventeen states allow the use of vote centers, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures, though not every county in each of those states uses them (and Iowa does not use them for federal elections).

This year, more states and counties are turning to vote centers as a way to combat the strains of the pandemic and use larger spaces with room for social distancing, such as fairgrounds or arenas. Maryland, for example, is consolidating its usual 1,600 polling places into a few hundred vote centers after local election officials told the governor they could not find enough poll workers to staff the usual number of locations.

No, it is not right. Voting should me made easy, efficient, and SECURE. Vote by mail is a potential solution which is what absentee voting provides. I do not support the model proposed by Democrats where ballots are mailed out unsolicited based on a registered vote list that Democrats refuse to purge voters who have died, voters no longer living in district, or voters who have been inactive for six or more years. I am also concerned when I hear and see accounts of bulk ballots intended for voters ending up in the trash never to arrive at the voters' residence.
They announce when ballots are mailed

If you did not receive one, call them up

That is only part of the issue. Why chance it? Why not the voter initiate the request so that there is more of a trail? Finally, if the Democrats insist on election boards sending ballots based on registered lists, why the resistance to clean up the lists as I described?

Dead people stand up and vote!

I don't know why anybody should stand in line for anything. What we should do in this crisis is have a drive-thru line at the poling places. You get your ballot in the line, and fill it out at work or home. Bring it back, and weather permitting, the ballot reader is outside, or in the hallway of the voting place right in front of the door. You simply present your ID, sign the book, and slip your ballot in the ballot reader. No need for lines or mail in voting.

Too bad that when the democrats in Harris County Texas tried to do that the Republican Party of Texas sued them yesterday.

They are doing it in Harris County. The lines to do it are very long but people are in their cars so it's not as bad as having to stand outside in line.

We will have to see if the conservative judges will rule for freedom, democracy and representative government or rule to block people from voting drive thru.

Personally, I hope the conservative judges rule for freedom and democracy. I won't be surprised if they rule to block people from voting drive thru.

The fact is the Republican Party wants to make it nearly impossible for people to vote.

Conservative judges rule on the side of the law all the time. They are the ONLY judges who do so libber.

Assuming the dems win the WH and the Senate, and pass a law mandating polling stations for federal elections per # of citizens within some distance, I wonder what the Barrett Court would do.

What difference does it make? Dems created any delays so let them figure out the answer if you don't want to wait in line. I am voting Trump so will stand in line as long as it takes.

I'm not sure why anyone should have to wait any longer at all. The line may be longer due to distancing but the actual voting process shouldn't change much. If it does, it is only for the voter's protection and I thought bleeding liberals WANTED that! Other than that, if you fear you might wait so long or expect you will, I thought that was why we had mail in voting.

You can't just make it impossible for one party to vote. There are no Republican lines and Democrat lines.

It is true that Republicans don't want to make it easy to vote, and that's a good thing. If you don't want to put any effort into voting, it probably means you don't care about it that much. If you don't care about it that much, it likely means you know little about WTF you're voting on.

If only politically knowledgeable people could vote our government would be in a lot better shape. We would end up with a lot better leaders. But as it is today, we have too many Obama Money people voting; people so ignorant of our country they don't know which side is up and which side is down.

If it were up to me, you would have to take a very simple test before being handed a ballot. Nothing very difficult, just a simple basic test to see if you have the most minimal knowledge of what's going on.
