Is there anyone on thai board who was helped by Affirmative Action?

Yes and women moving into management positions reduced opportunities for white males.

This is your ignorance in action. When women or anyone moves into management of their own merit, it grows the economy, which means that no one is harmed, more jobs are created. When a less qualified candidate gets the job, the economy grows less and there is in fact fewer jobs are created.

The best way to grow women (or blacks, ...) in management is to do nothing. The companies that don't hire the best candidates for those reasons suffer in the marketplace against the companies that don't discriminate. The marketplace is self correcting. Only government can manipulate the marketplace and turn losers into winners.

That is the beauty of free markets, they fix all these problems. The problem you authoritarian leftists have is that you have to control.

Motherhood and Apple Pie

Companies had decades to improve opportunities for blacks and women. Instead, they gave them menial and secretarial jobs
You're 30 years behind the times, pal.
Your problem is you're over. All of those standard whines you libs throw out are no longer valid.

Anyone who has a wife or daughter can thank affirmative action

Read a highschool yearbook from the 50s or 60s and see what girls listed as their future plans. The smart ones wanted to be a nurse or teacher. Others would list beautician or cashier. If you went into business you listed secretary. Most just put housewife

That was what used to be the opportunities for women before Affirmative Action

You can stick with that interpretation if you like.
Women were not necessarily excluded from the workplace.
Women and men had certain roles they fulfilled.
Men were expected to find a woman, marry her, buy her a home, raise children, go to work and provide for his wife and family. Women were expected to raise the children, keep the house and serve their husbands.
it had little to do with discrimination. This was our culture. A culture that has evolved.
Nice try at attempting to include women as minority group.
That dog will not hunt.

In terms of Affirmative Action, women were a minority group and AA ensured that women had access to career fields formerly reserved for white males.

There is no question that AA was an effective tool in ensuring women had access to all career fields. All women today benefitted from AA. Even conservative women

Insisting one is correct does not make them correct.
"white males"...
Racist comment.
You libs use the term "white" as though being Caucasian makes one a criminal.

Anyone on this board have a daughter?

Is she involved in sports? If she is, you can thank Title 9 which opened up equal access for womens sports

Before Title 9, Girls sports were Field Hockey, Basketball and Softball.....mostly Cheerleading

Any young girl today has a dozen or more sports available to her plus equipment and facilities

Title IX is a fail! Instead of providing women with athletic opportunities in and of itself, the remedy was to reduce athletic opportunities for men.
It is this and most other liberal policies that had the best of intentions. To lift those perceived to be disadvantaged.
The unintended consequences are when these polices such as title IX are implemented at the expense of others.
Title IX has created more problems than it has solved.
Some of the actions implemented since Title IX became law are illogical.

Yes and women moving into management positions reduced opportunities for white males.
No, it did not.
Two entirely different things.

No, actually the key to being a liberal is the whine must constantly change to meet the times. 40 years ago it was the opportunities for women and minorities. Today it is the plight of workers as a whole and declining compensation

One thing that remains the same is the response from conservatives......No....No....NO

Oh

I never realized those were "extra" managerial positions

Sure it is. That's just a nice liberal talking point and will be used as a plank in democrat campaign platforms. That and 50 cents will get you Senior coffee at Burger King.
No No No....To the liberal agenda.
Correct, that is precisely why we sent those people to Washington. To stop your people.

And you use the concept of "butthurt" as if it's required to make a post.

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren was helped by Affirmative Action. Because of the 1/32 Cherokee she had in her cheekbones (according to her Pa-Paw), she was able to claim to a minority status as a professor at Harvard.

Like to see you try to link that.

There's only one person that's ever been helped by affirmative action. And that person was, is, and ever shall be Satan. His tendrils are creeping ever further into every orifice of what's left of American culture

No, you are confused! Aparheid, racism, Hitlerism and neoConservatism are the agents of Satan. Affirmative Action is a subset of altruism, the cornerstone of Christianity!

Well, AA sure isn't working for Black folks. Have you seen the high black unemployment statistics lately? If AA is causing is a drain on society it must be caused by some other group!

I see more blacks in management positions, more black doctors and lawyers, more blacks in sports with positions of responsibility, more black politicians....even a black President

The groundwork was laid by Affirmative Action

So you admit that Obama is the first AA president, interesting. You also admit that all successful blacks didn't make it on their own they needed an advantage. Again interesting revelation.

The only admissionI see here is yours: admitting that your myopic opinion is devoid of historical significance regarding Affirmative Action. Obama is brilliant, far smarter than GW Bush or his father. If there is such a thing as traditional Affirmative Action, it surely must apply to the Bush dynasty.

The interesting revelation is that you don't realize that no one can make it entirely on their own, especially if your group is a minory that is held in contempt by a larger hostile group. However, some powerful white Christians acted in concert with talented Black icons to uplift those who were worthy and willing! Even as the roar of vocal and violent complaints from millions of white constituents filled the airwaves and fueled a media frenzy!

The truth hurts doesn't it? BTW he used the term "white males" not "white." White women are white too; or are you suggesting that they are not really white?

AA did not magically create these opportunities. These actions did not produce success and achievement. The individuals did that on their own.
AA is no longer needed.
AA started circling the bowl when this case: Regents of the University of California v. Bakke | The Oyez Project at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law was tried in court.
As with any do-gooder measure, the writers of such laws invariably ignore the laws of unintended consequences

.

Do you actually think before posting? Opportunities for white women and minorities were indeed created by Affirmative Action. Without having access to those created opportunities there would be no DOING it on their own! BTW the word opportunity in this context means white women and minorities were afforded the chance to show they could make it on their own without barriers being placed before them at virtually every turn!

Also, I will be convinced that AA is no longer needed when a government sanctioned group is formed from a cross section of American citizens to study that issue and makes a comprehensive public report.
