Israel has the only legal claim to sovereignty of the territories in question. No one else has a legal claim to those territories. When Israel declared independence in 1948, she had existing borders with Jordan, Syria, Egypt and Lebanon. (The borders with Egypt and Jordan have since been confirmed in the relevant peace treaties.) Those are Israel's borders. They remain Israel's borders. Nothing has happened since 1948 to change them.

In 1948, Egypt and Jordan began a war of aggression, taking territory that did not belong to them. Neither Egypt nor Jordan had a sovereign claim to those territories. As you keep - correctly - pointing out: you can't take territory that doesn't belong to you by way of an aggressive war. IF you claim that territory was removed from Israel in 1948 and legally transferred to Egypt and Jordan, you are discounting your very own, insistent argument that territory can't be gained by conquest and war.

Israel does "own" the territories in question.

This is a valid point and question. If the problem, as you suggest, is the blockade and the "effective control" of what goes in and out of Gaza, why isn't Gaza also attacking Egypt in order to "defend itself" and end the "illegal and immoral blockade"?

Egypt doesn't shoot at their fisherman and farmers. Egypt didn't kill 225 Gazans this year prior to Oct. 7th.

They are not refugees by any normative sense of the word. That terminology is used to perpetually maintain the illusion that Palestinians and the people of Gaza are helpless victims. It is used to escape responsibility for their own actions and demonize Israel. It is unconscionably disrespectful to Palestinians and the people of Gaza to continue to undermine their own agency, accountability, and responsibility to their own future by insisting upon giving them this label.

How much more? It is entirely up to them. With all the aide they are receiving, I'm certain Gaza can be transformed into a jewel of the Mediterranean in what? ten years, with a thriving tourist economy, exports of fruit and vegetables, technology, and who knows what else.

The international community needs to stop supporting the people of Gaza for attacking Israel, and also stop trapping the people of Gaza into being weapons against Israel. They need to step up and take their place in the world.

It says that where in the Balfour Declaration, exactly? Not that the Balfour Declaration is a legally binding document, or anything. But you seem to be confused about how international law works. What are Israel's borders? What legal documents or agreements define those borders?

On the contrary, this position is the normative one. It is why the international community keeps pushing for a settlement. There ARE NO international borders between Israel and Palestine. These borders are to be determined in a settlement. If there were existing borders, the international community wouldn't have to ask for a negotiated settlement.
