Let’s start with that document at the bottom center of the photo. It has a cover sheet indicating that it is classified as “secret.” The government has default cover sheets for various classification levels, ranging from a blue “confidential” classification to an orange “top secret.”

You’ll notice that the documents with the “TOP SECRET/SCI” markings in the photo have a yellow border and not an orange one. Similarly, the document at the bottom center has an orangeish-red-bordered cover sheet (not a purely red one) and is marked “SECRET/SCI.” That “SCI” is important — as are other markings on the cover sheet that provide more information about the document’s classification.

I just can't think of a good reason Trump would have 43 classified folders sitting completely empty. This new evidence is concerning, especially when you consider that Trump's attorneys already apparently lied to the FBI during the first attempt to gather these documents

Just a question, Mike. Did you think Nixon should have been able to protect, keep and withhold records of his presidency also? You are no doubt aware of the Presidential Records act of 1978.

Ex-presidents have every right in the world to protext and keep any records, classified or not.
What they can not do is to with hold them from FOIA, for which NARA was established.
But that does not mean any personal presidential records, such as privileged communications.
Like between lawyers and Trump, covered by attorney/client privilege, or any that would be covered by executive privilege.
But the Presidential Records act of 1978 does not put a time limit on how long it takes to get sort records for NARA.

It sounds like some highly classified files were recovered, along with other presidential office related papers. What if it is true?

Ex-presidents are supposed to have all the papers from their term in office, including highly classified ones, until they can be sorted as to which are personal, duplicate, for NARA, etc.
And even after that, they have every right in the world to keep copies of classified docs as long as they do so safely, and not put them in insecure emails.

That's totally silly.
Trump and all his White House staff had seen all these classified docs while he was president.
Therefore he not only has legal access to them all, but can retain copies of whatever he wants, for memoirs, libraries, legal evidence, etc.
You can not possibly claim it was illegal for Trump to see these docs, when clearly he was required to when president.
And as a matter of fact, Trump and his staff are the ONLY ones who can legally see or copy these docs.
It would not be legal for the FBI or later administrations to see them, since they have no "need to know".
