John Bolton Being Considered for Secretary of State

It would be nice to have a few appointees who aren't pushing 100 years old. Get some people in there who weren't architects of the Iraq invasion that Trump rightfully called out as a mistake
Looks like you made it back from your epic backpack trip.

Glad to see you back and hear from you.

It takes old age (over 60) to make sense of the world and the people and laws in it.

50's is ok for senior management but not for diplomacy.

40's is ok for middle management and technical review.

30's is ok for training and detailed review.

20's is ok for OJT and hands-on technical work.

I don't know where you are in that spectrum of 20 to 70 but that's how it usually works.

Young people in older jobs usually screw up.

Older people in younger jobs usually run out of gas by mid afternoon.

I dont know much about Bolton, but have a hard time listening to him when he has been interviewed on TV. He comes off as extremely partisan and biased.
He is...he's a proud American.
He is a proud American, but he is also a globalist and Trump is not, so the proper place for him is representing the US in international organization, not in a job in which policy is formulated.

It appears that it's Giuliani.

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is the leading candidate to be Mr. Trump’s nominee for secretary of state, people familiar with the matter said, a move that would elevate a well-known national figure to become the U.S.’s chief diplomat.

Mr. Trump’s aides have also considered former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton as a possible candidate, but the close relationship between Messrs. Giuliani and Trump was a major consideration, the people said.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Bolton as an advisor.

Also, Ben Carson turned down the offer of Health Secretary. He's kind of whacky, but I like him personally.
Giuliani would be a really sh!tty choice for a diplomacy job, since he has no experience.

He would be a great AG though.

I hope Trump does not pick G for SecState.

I do expect Trump to make a lot of mistakes and G for SecState would be a big one.

By the way, it's only fitting that Trump should get the Nobel Peace Prize for "changing the tone".

John Bolton was a horrible U.N. ambassador, a disgrace.

The world changes. Middle Eastern oil is not the essential strategic resources that it once was. Cyber security is an increasing concern (Bolton and Guliani probably need help changing the settings on their phones). Nation building is out of fashion. Robots and drones are poised to replace human soldiers.
Artifacts of the 20th Century like Bolton and Guliani are not hip to what's up. I say that realizing that the median age of USMB members is about 92 yrs old, so I'm not expecting much agreement.

Bolton would fit in well as UN ambassador or US representative to NATO, both places where a no nonsense representative is needed to represent Trump's no nonsense positions.

The glacial pace of UN deliberations would drive Bolton insane. He would get fed up and resign.
lol I think Bolton would have a stimulating effect on the UN.

Considering Bolton already was ambassador to the UN, I highly doubt a second time would be different
It was a temporary appointment and the Dems wouldn't let him have it.

Bolton is a piece of shit.

I'd say it will never happen, but I didn't think Trump would be stupid enough to pick Bannon.

Bolton does as he is told.

Guess the same would go for Clinton then?

I would say the President directs the ultimate direction of their staff.
And yes, Hillary would do what Obama directs her to do.
How many bosses do you know who tolerate insurrection?

I brought it up because she took a lot of flack for her job as Sec of State. Do you think that reflected poorly on her or do you think she was just doing her job?

Fierce infighting? Pardon my skepticism, after the first billion slurs it kinda wears off. Bolton would be my first choice, he knows his stuff.
John Bolton is a War Hawk and would get us into foreign adventures aka "wars for no damned good reason".

Enough already; too many Americans have spilled their blood and sacrificed their sons on foreign soil in pursuit of neocon visions of Napoleonic glory.

I think John Bolton is a great idea.

Giuliani for DOJ

Petraeus for Secretary of Defense

Giuliani for Sec State, Senator Sessions for DoD

Christy for DOJ

Bolton as ambassador to Russia.

Hillary as Ambassador to Libya

Petraeus for NSC

I'm not onboard with the whole alt.right, neocon, war hawk, etc. business. Labels can't describe all of what a person believes. Bolton knows his stuff and isn't going to be able to bypass the president if he does in fact want piles of dead babies to porn over.
