Man douses girlfriend in perfume, sets her on fire, police say
By Becky Bratu, Staff Writer, NBC News
A Pennsylvania man accused of pouring perfume on his girlfriend and setting her on fire in an apparent domestic dispute was arrested Saturday, Pittsburgh's WTAE reported.

Springdale police said 22-year-old Maria Redman was burned on more than 30 percent of her body early Thursday morning when 27-year-old Clinton Cohen threw perfume on her and then lit her on fire with a cigarette lighter, according to WPXI. Cohen then threw a blanket at Redman and walked out of the apartment.
According to police, the couple's infant daughter was at home in a crib when the incident occurred.
“It was a verbal domestic dispute and he began choking her, then punched her,” Lt. Jeff Korczyk told WPXI. “Cohen then opened a bottle of perfume, poured it over the victim and lit it with a cigarette lighter.”
Korczyk said the daughter had some blood spatter on her from her mother.
Officials said Redman remains in the hospital in critical, but stable condition.
Cohen has been charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children.

Or maybe not. This guy reads like some sadistic nut who tried to kill the woman any way. Why is it so difficult to understand that there are some people in this world who will hurt others? Guns have nothing to do with this kind of evil.

This act was not premeditated. It was a domestic fight that escalated into a violent crime. He used the only device that was handy in order to inflict harm.

If there had been a gun lying around it would most likely been used, since using perfume as a fire accellerant to burn your spouse to death is not exactly the most gratifying way to exact revenge when one is in a rage, as this man obviously was.

Use your head..... and not Wayne Lapierre's twisted brain when thinking about guns and violent crimes.

Winning!

My step-daughter had a gun, a S&W .38 that her Dad gave her in order to defend herself after she moved to L.A.

Her boyfriend stole it, held up an Exxon station in El Toro and shot an attendant in the leg. He's serving 14 years.

Sorry, you still lose.

Actually, no. The idiot in prison lost. Serves him right too.

Wow, sounds as if your step-daughter lossed, followed quickly by her loser boyfriend.

I'm not really sure how your little tale relates to the story in your OP, but thanks for sharing...

EDIT:

It would seem as if your step-daughter was not properly storing her firearm, might want to talk to her about that...

Thanks for proving the point that someone doesn't need a gun to harm someone. Also your step daughter made a stupid mistake and two people are paying the price.

Perhaps your step daughter should be more discriminating in her choice of boyfriends.

No. Your point was to say gun ownership could have ended her life, he pointed out quite effectively that gun ownership could have saved her life.

You lose. Put the bong down and next time you won't get embarrassed so easily.

It doesn't relate. It was a desperate atempt to save face.

Your point is totally muddled if not nonexistent.

You established that it didn't matter what the guy had within arms reach, he still would have attempted to do harm. It didn't matter if he had a gun. That's the same argument that the NRA makes.

Are you fucking insane? You are blaming her step daughter for the fact someone stole her gun and shot someone, ending up in jail? Unbelieveable.

Then a huge percentage of 'ordinary' joes who own guns are responsible to a huge percentage of the violence caused when those guns are stolen. You make a very good case for gun laws. Keep them out of the hands of irresponsible people who don't lock them up and make sure no one will be able to steal it. A pretty hard thing to do, making sure no one will steal it, when you've got a determined burgler or someone who spends a lot of time in your home and turns out to be a loser.

You make a better case for taking thiefs off the street. Many of the guns that were stolen were behind locked doors and some in locked cabinets and safes. They say locks are only good enough to keep the honest honest. A thief will find a way to break in. And this newspaper that released the names and addresses of gun-owners should have been thrown in jail, because many of them had break-ins within weeks of the story.

Sorry, I'm not buying that shit line. And as someone else observed earlier, if there had been a firearm "lying around", she might have had a chance to defend herself. According to your OP, she was being abused prior to being doused with perfume and set afire. But then, people like you would be screaming that this guy would still be alive if this "bitch" had not had access to a gun.
The one fact most consistently ignored by gun-grabbing morons is the FACT that guns (or knives, perfume, whatever) do not commit the crime, PEOPLE do. Without involvement of a person, all those things are inherently harmless. Use your head...start placing blame where it belongs.

Man! You can sure cram a whole lot of stupid into one paragraph!
